For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

Still enjoying being back at in the listening chair with the Headphones 🙏

Tonight I'm listening to a new release from one of my favorite electronic music artists, Ugress. His new album, Retropia, dropped yesterday and I've spun it a few times since. His sound have evolved from the earlier albums, being more "conventional" electronic music this time around, where I feel many of the previous ones was more beat-centric electronic music, if that makes any sense?
Anyway, still a great listen, and I'll also be adding this one to the CD collection, if he release a CD version.

The Fiio FT1 is connected to the Aune S17 Pro, which is being feed by the Fiio R7.
Still can't get over how good and comfy these headphones are 💪

What are you holding in place with the Darko-esque weights on top of the speakers? And you have space on that rack for more gear!! 😂
Well spotted. Indeed, he likes his weights on everything. Here they just provide a little damping to the top of the speakers. Yes there is more space for stuff. I have three amplifiers in rotation but they are usually packed away if not in use (dust) as are my headphones. They only see daylight if actually used :)

I needed a break from the Origins and was getting a little tired of having IEMs in my ears so I've switched to earbuds. This time I went for the Yincrow RW-4000s which have quickly become a favorite of mine over the last couple months. They do so many things so well and they can handle pretty much any genre I throw at them with aplomb. I'm sticking with the Hiby RS6 as my source for now.

Up next in my musical rotation is The Fierce & The Dead's 2013 release, Spooky Action. These guys put out some solid instrumental prog with various influences apparent from track to track and album to album. This particular LP has a kind of light-hearted energy to it with some passages having some pretty apparent nods to early to mid 90s surf/skate punk and ska while still keeping things proggy. I love listening to these guys and never quite knowing what you're gonna get stylistically from track to track. It keeps things fun and the energy and flow are perfect for getting some work done and being productive. Two thumbs up from your's truly! 👍👍😎

Spitalfield is one of those bands I always relisten to and marvel at how they aren't headlining arenas, but remember they were on Victory Records and it all makes sense.... Their early work is very pop punk but starting with this release they leaned into a more alternative sound, great stuff. If you like Jimmy Eat World or the Starting Line would def recommend giving them a spin.

Rockin the Sza since all these mid-00's bands recordings are extremely bright, smooths some of that out..

Taking a break to while I grab some lunch so I've jumped on some over ears. My wife officially stopped working and went on maternity leave on Friday which of course means her team is over here in a Saturday working on some last minute stuff so closed backs it is. I'm going with the DCA Stealths driven by my Ferrum Oor/Hypsos stack with the Holo May KTE decoding the coax out from a Wiim Pro.

On deck in this afternoon's queue is Daliborovo Granje with their 2020 album, Hainin. Another recent discovery of mine, these guys are a Croatian instrumental psychedelic prog band and their music sucked me in almost instantly. Also, can we just marvel for a second at the fact that we live in a world so connected that our musical access has reached a point where I now have a favorite Croatian psychedelic prog band? That's undeniably cool and I have these moments fairly regularly when it just hits me how far we've come in interconnectedness in a fairly short timespan. Anyways, these guys have a sound that's all their own and I am a big fan. I'd encourage you guys, especially the prog and psych rock fans amongst us, to give it a whirl. 🤘😎

Solo parenting this weekend, so I'm catching some couch and tunes time while the little ones nap. Craving the almost-total isolation of the Kiwi Ears Orchestra Lite after a chaotic morning.

Orchestra Lite < Qudelix 5K < iPhone SE (Tidal)

Sung Tongs Live at the Theatre at Ace Hotel (2004/2024), Animal Collective

My favorite Animal Collective album, recorded live at their absolute height back in 2004 (despite what Tidal says, this was actually recorded in 2018). I strongly prefer the early freak folk output of Animal Collective to their subsequent turn toward electronic pop. This album has always held a special place in my heart, and hearing it live instantly takes me back to that time, particularly since I caught them live right around the time this live version of the album was recorded (nope, AC were taking a trip down memory lane too). Very happy to see this among this past week's new releases. A fantastic performance, beautifully mixed and mastered.
