These forums have been a Godsend for me and I'm hoping y'all can do it again. I have my music collection on a harddrive on my network. All files are in FLAC. I use Squeezebox to play them on my systems in my office and living room.

I need to give my wife access to them in her office. She is used to itunes. Can I set her up to use Foobar2k without getting complaints that it isn't as easy as itunes? I fiddled with it for a few minutes on my old laptop and it wasn't a snap.

I'd really like to avoid the yelling from the other room that I get when the remote doesn't work or some other tech problem associated with my systems and her thought patterns.

Before I spend a day or two setting it up, I thought I would ask here what would be the best player with WAF. Thanks in advance.

I think you are wise to think carefully about WAF.

Have a look at J. River Media Center. You can set it up to look and operate much like iTunes. Setup is straightfoward; You select options in dialogs and select fields (tags) to display and select with.

Flac is supported as are other formats.
You can go far beyond iTunes in using different tags or in having different views for different kinds of music.
Great tag editing and a secure ripping facility that produces the same results as EAC and dBpoweramp. (I compared the audio stream of lots of files to be sure.)
Good utilities too.
ASIO and WASAPI support built in too.

This is so familiar to me.

My wife uses JRMC via a VNC connection from her PC to the dedicated MusicPC. She darts around in the JRMC UI selecting single songs and queueing them up for play. She even fixes tag mistakes in our library. I had to think carefully about streamlining the process for her but it was worthwhile.

If she is skilled with computer programmes and understands computers from a programmers/software fixers perspective you'll give her a new hobby. I may exaggerate a bit.

I tried Foobar2000 but I'm too much of a noob to work with the software and the help function can be very confusing. Maybe you should give her an impression of Foobar2000 for she could just 'get it.'

I tried J river and it is really sweet. I think she's gonna like it. The 3d is pretty cool.

J. River MC has lots of functionality. It may be worthwhile for you to spend some time exploring its features. There are often several ways to accomplish things in MC. Some may not be obvious to you.

You may have the files you ripped in one location and your wife may have her music files somewhere else. MC can handle that in more than one way.

- If you want to view both sets of files at once, you can just import both base folders (yours and hers.) Or you can specify both base folders as auto-import folders and let MC look for changes.

- If you want to view only one set of files at a time, you can define two separate libraries (his and hers) and import the appropriate base folders into each library. MC works with one library at a time, so you would be using one library or the other.

The J. River forums are quite helpful. The search facility works pretty well to turn up existing material. There are many helpful people with real expertise in using MC who respond to questions on the forums. Since MC 14 is the current version, most of the action is in the MC14 forum now.

If you are viewing the MC UI from a TV screen, Theater View is appropriate. If you are using a PC screen, standard view provides much more functionality.

Good luck with the WAF!
