So after a small hiatus from linux on my system (my HD that had linux on it was fried in a power surge over the summer), I finally got around to installing Ubuntu Edgy this week. It's running fine, having fun back in the mix...however, I really REALLY like foobar2k and feel that most programs in linux really are lacking compared with iTunes and foobar2k.

So I set out to install both. First using Wine....nope...not ready yet, not by a long shot, at least not for foobar2k. However, because I require MS Office for some work things (wherein I need absolute 100% compatibility with docs...) I went out and got Codeweaver's Crossover office. I installed MS Office 2003 without a hitch and iTunes, both I knew would work because I had them running in the summer...but the real surprise was when I attempted to install the current foobar2k! It works...works like a charm. I'm listening right now and could not be happier. I do believe that as of right now, Ubuntu is ready for me to keep as my only desktop environment unless I want to play games, which is admittedly rare.

So, for those that NEED foobar2k...drop the 40 bucks or whatever on CrossOver Office and get installing foobar2k.

Amarok is okay for some things...but it's no foobar2k replacement for me. Amarok is also requires KDE files, I do have it installed...but I want a streamlined system.

The real question should be why would anyone want iTunes on Linux

Because it is awesome. I am also very familiar with it and I have it set up exactly how I want my music player to run.

iTunes for the wife sir...for the wife. Nothing works as flawlessly with iPods as iTunes and this household has 4 of them.
