Just installed Foobar2000 with the kernel streaming plugin 1.2.2. Im using this with a Chaintech Av-710.
I read a few guides on how to set up Foobar with this card but these are older guides... There is an option to set the "Output Data Format" to 16,24, and 32 bits. All of them work perfectly fine but in the older guides it says to use ""24bit fixed-point padded to 32bit".
What should I be using?
16, 24 or 32 bits. There is no, "24bit fixed-point padded to 32bit".

If your music is 16-bit, set it to 16-bit.
If you do listen to some 24-bit music, set it to 24-bit.
It really isn't that important.

I am trying to figure this out as well. Has there been no plugin for Foobar .9 that allows playback of 24 bit music on something like an Emu 0404? I seem to recall using 24-bit padded to 32-bit for that to work.

Edit: Looks like it's working, my test track just had a few seconds of cracks and pops at the beginning and I thought it was my software. I'm still curious about the changes in the bitrate output setting of Foobar .9 vs .8.

I think I read somewhere that data is sent to the soundcard in 32-bit format anyway. What you are setting is basically where the padding occurs: in foobar or in the driver/OS. I guess foobar is less likely to muck up data, so just do it in foobar. Don't quote me on this, though--I don't remember the source and won't be able to find it now, but it seems logical given that AV-710 is a PCI card and PCI is 32 bits wide.
