Hi . Does anyone use this audio player ? I'm a classic rocker , I'm not good at setting up the Equalizer but I would like to use it . Whom ever is a classic rocker like myself and does use the equalizer I would like to know how you have your set up ? Thanks

Welcome to Head-Fi, justalice!

«Equalizing» means making the over-all frequency response of your system flat. Since the most important frequency-response distortion is caused by the headphones, we need to know what headphone you're using. Even then it will be hard to replace your ears by somebody else's, though, but we could try.

It's the same with the speaker setup!

BTW, the EQ in Foobar is bit different from most I know ...

(though the latter one seemed to clip few times while measuring ... just didn't check the levels)

Based on that SPAN, the foobar EQ has pretty limited usefulness. Certainly not the right tool for dramatic cuts or boosts. But then, your CDs have already been mastered so they should not require too much EQ.

+/-20 db is way more than enough... as long as you don't mind the distortion every time you move from one of those shelves to the next one.

I use Foobar as the mp3 player and the Etymotic ER6i earphones to listen to music, where can I find the best foobar equalizer presets for this setup? How can I make my own? How can I get the right equalizer frequency response for these earphones?

You could set a preset by these measures

by using the free Electri-Q as VST or the Winamp version. If the target is a straight frequency curve then just 'draw' the opposite curve into Electri-Q EQ 'panel'. NOTE: This does maybe not sound good at all.

I think my sound card software's eq interferes with foobar's eq, so am I stuck with the software's eq? Can you give me the exact instructions on what I am suppose to adjust in what to test the correct sound frequencies? Am I suppose to lower the sound frequency for the er6i on the er6i chart to match the reference line? What do I do in Electri-Q to test what?

What I did so far was change the sound card's software eq settings to -20 because that is the lowest it can go, and then implement a vst host into foobar and use electri-q as the vst plugin, and then used the frequency wave of the C-media graph for the frequency wave. Maybe I'm listening to garbage 320 kbps mp3s so there isn't any sound improvement beyond that.
