Are there any other portable folding closed monitoring headphones (not DJ specific phones) apart from the ATH-M40 and it's siblings and the V6/7506? The HD280 folds but I'm not convinced it's portable if you see what I mean. Maybe in a plane it's OK but I'm not really feeling brave enough to wear it anywhere else, especially with my already gigantic head. Do any others ring a bell with you? Ideally something that sounds better than the 7506?

yeah, the HFI-650 is better according to many, but it has a VERY similar headband to the HD280Pro per kelly in his review, so it would probably be roughly the same size.

You're right, it does look very 'boomerang on me head' like the HD280. They won't fold up quite small like the M40 or the V6 then will they? Or is it an illusion, are they low profile? I've seen the review, is there anywhere else easier for me to get them apart from Meier Audio?

- no really, I've seen the IXOS, that closely resembles the Ultrasone, in person (worn), and it doesn't look that bad at all. (if you're happy with looking like a techno hoppin' DJ). I thought it looked better worn than the V700.

Not that I'm aware of. I have all the details you need to pay via Paypal, which will save you a day or two in corresponding across the pond (and cost you 10usd in fees).

See my HFI-650s at the next UK Head-Fi meet! (If I haven't sold them by then).

I got so fed up being ganged up on at home ('TURN THAT BLOODY THING DOWN!), and the reaction I got over the KSC50s was just the last straw, that I had to get a pair of closed phones.

The PX200s are closed enough that I can use them in the same room as someone else, but they're nowhere near as awesome sounding as the HD600s. And Duncan's A900 review, even though he went and released it early, was too far in the future for me. The D66 Eggos interest me a bit, but I never got the chance to hear yours, and besides, Duncan thinks they can verge on brightness (the same Duncan who thinks the KSC5s are dull!!

), and I'm also worried that they wouldn't be closed enough. I'd also be worried about wearing them in public

. Mind you, I don't think the HFI-650 is for public consumption, either.

Whoa there!! I haven't even received the 650s yet, let alone decided I don't like them

I look forward to hearing your kit, though.

PS - I'm having an extra stong padlock fitted to my wallet and I'm about to start self-restraint classes...

Oh I see. Well you were the one talking about selling them! Give us a brief review. I don't like long ones because my keyboard doesn't take well to being rested and drooled on

Oh, only because that seems to be the etiquette around here - buy a pair and sell them a week or two later

And you'll have to be patient for the review. I don't expect they'll get in the post before Monday

Off topic, but it's my thread so there.
You were saying you ordered one colour and got another for the ATH-EM7 that I got from you? You did actually get the colour you ordered. There's gun metal and silver... And what you got is gun metal.

Weird. So mine, er, yours, aren't silver?

I could have sworn that a) the pics showed a definite silver and a very obvious black, and b) I didn't get what I was expecting.

Oh well, just put it down to senility.

Seeing as we're veerring totally off topic, here goes anyway... I think Audio-Technica doesn't have proper colour matching on their website. The silver is definitely a very shiny silver and not this slightly subdued finish. The ATH-A1000's are totally the wrong colour as well, in real life they're much greyer and looks better actually. And in reverse, the ATH-A100Ti looks better on the website than it looks in real life.
