Have not tried them straight out of the Benchmark- I love the sound of the Woo so much. I'll try it one day though.

No worries there...a local friend has them too...so I'll borrow them. Looks like I'll be reviewing them (Utopia's and the new V2 HE1000s as well).

I need to clarify, I agreed with the part that I highlit in bold in MacedonianHero's post. I haven't heard the HD800S, but I simply don't feel any desire to now.

For it's price, the Utopia should be the world's best dynamic driver headphone with no exceptions.

For its price, it should do way more than that, but I cannot say what that is in polite company. :)

How that compares to the SR009?

Can anyone kindly compare the Utopia with LCD4? As im holding the LCD4 and planing to get a Utopia and keep both headphone to be my daily/office headphone.

Does the GSX Mk2 a good choice to drive the Utopia? (Gonna get a Utopia and change the cable to balance anyway)

Serious questions please, im ready to place the order in any time

    Thx :)

The Source AV sent the Utopias to me to take to our Chicago meet and I had them a couple days before the meet. They are an easy to drive headphone. I used the RSA Apache and they sounded fsntastic. From what I have read about the GS MK II, it would pair well. If you like the GS MKII, I suspect you would like it even more with the Utopia.

Just got my Utopias. Is anyone running these with balanced cables? I'm wondering what my balanced cable upgrade options are.

In our experience the best 2 balanced cables are the Heimdal 2 and the Axios by Kimber. The Heimdal by Nordost really kicks up the detail. The Axios brings up the bass nicely.

I own the KingSound KS-H3, Sennheiser HD598, Sonus Faber Pryma and now the Focal Utopia. I was surprised with the Utopia's weight and heft, especially with the added cable weight; so much so that I am still weighing wether or not I want to keep them. I know the cable can be replaced; however the stock cable is also considerably weighty.
I agree with the above comment that the Focal Utopia are heavy, although many reviewers have commented that they find the weight well distributed and not too heavy for extended wear.

Yikes, these are nice cables, but quite a bit more than I'd like to spend on a passive component. I notice that the OEM plug is standard Neutrik 1/4" stereo plug. The L and R wires are kept separate all the way to the plug. This means, in theory we could just solder a 4-pin XLR balanced plug on it. $20 upgrade. Any reason this wouldn't work?

I know of several people that have modified the stock and they appear to be content. So I guess there is no reason you can't do it. You don't modify Nordost because it's length and connector tuned
