While I've read the susvara, atrium, and other threads on headfi of headphones that I've owned, I realized I've never really read this thread. And it's mostly because I have nothing to really discuss.

The moment I demoed it, it immediately became one of my favorite headphones. I purchased one off a kind headfier here over a year ago, and it has provided me the most consistent enjoyment out of any headphone by far. I'd go as far as to say it is the only flagship I've heard that I think justifies its price point, and the used market prices are just incredible. I know there's been much criticism of the utopia, and it's further proof we all hear differently, as I can't find a single real flaw. Sure, I could kind of hear it having a smaller soundstage than other headphones, or that maybe the timbre is off a little, or yeah it objectively rolls off, but then I put them on and I just hear the music come alive.
I'm with you here. I've had mine for almost a year now too. Doesn't feel like I've had them close to a year at this point! I ordered them Halloween weekend, also from a fellow Head-Fier. They still continue to impress, and have never felt the need to look for anything more.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the reply. I just plugged it into my Fiio K9 AKM as I did with the previous one, and they sound drastically different in the bass region. This one is an almost 3-year-old unit. It may be because the pads are worn or the goops are seeping into the driver. I'm not sure, so I'm considering sending it to Focal and having it cleaned and inspected.
My OG utopia dig deep bass off my DMP-Z1. I got mine a year ago from ebay, guess i had luck.

Why you don't remove the parts and clean your headphones before the glue slips into the driver?

Nice to see a Hometown Fan. It’s all about The City Of Champions.

Hi all. New Utopia OG owner here. Cables are not very nice, I'll be getting an aftermarket cable soon. Can you provide any cleaning tips to keep the headphones in excellent condition?

For those who know both Caldera Open and Utopia. Which headphone is:

1. Darker?
2. Thicker sounding? (I'm not refering to bass- but overall thickness)
3. Has more solidity of sound?
1. This is a draw - if I had to say which is "darker", :gun: to my head, probably Utopia. Caldera is spicier in the lower treble, I think Utopia is spicier in the upper treble, but I can't hear that anymore, so 🤷‍♂️.
2. Caldera
3. Depends on what you mean by "solidity". Caldera is meatier, but Utopia is punchier.

At the end of the day, if you are indexing for bass - Caldera. If you are indexing for mids & clarity, Utopia. If you are indexing for "balanced", it depends on your amp. Caldera is good with pretty much anything; Utopia is picky, but rewards you if you feed it the good stuff.

nothing more than a soft cloth is required and avoid leather cleaners/conditioners
I would add pull the pads off every six months or so and check for goop as described often in this thread. Not that you will ever get it, but if you do, best to resolve it before you suffer any damage.

I prefer the thick pads, gives it the bit of extra flavor I'm looking for IMO.

that could be why the caldera sounds 'thicker' and 'meatier' to you than the utopia. i can't say that i am noticing this with the Caldera's stock pads tbh. that said, there may be other variables at play.
