Hi all

(don't crucify me for this first question. I have just subscribed to this thread and yes I am going to read a lot of this thread.......having said that may I post...)

I am looking for a strong detailed headphone best suited for classic rock (and contemporary i guess).
Detail is pretty important to me in this regard too. Am I looking in the right thread or do you have other ideas for me?

ps i have the he1000se, hd800 and zmf auteur.
I am now strongly considering the lcd4 for its bass but it's more the need for rock that i am looking to service and i think i can do better than the lcd4 in this regard

This is the Stellia specific thread. Is that headphone one that you are considering? If not, your question is best asked in a more general advice thread.

And FWIW, I think the Stellia would be an excellent choice for detail and rock genres.

Yes. An opinion i respect suggested i look at the stellia specifically hence why i am here. (And perhaps the fostex 909)

As a further note i did find the utopia a little too fatiguing/ draining /aggressive for me (from memory it was just the upper end of the FR) when i demoed them before with my cayin iha6 (solid state amp) hence why i am not going down that path.

With me having heard the lcd4 (and owning the lcd2 from 2 years ago) how does the stellia compare to the lcd4?

LCD-4 is a better HP but the Stellia has advantages...it is far more efficient allowing one to take it on a trip etc and use portable equipment...it is far more comfortable and it is a great sounding HP

The Stellia is more neutral compare to the LCD4 with more treble presence and just isn't as rich sounding in general. It's still warm sounding with a really well done bass but with less bass texture and visceral impact than the LCD4 (and by sheer amount and presence as well). Resolution is actually pretty close. LCD4 has larger soundstage in all direction and also more natural sounding top end though this is to be expected for closed back vs open back (which the Stellia is one of, if not the best, in closed back category).

i wouldn't say that it's "vastly warmer" but it does have a warmer sound signature to my ears

Vastly was hyperbolic. But I do feel as though there’s a very immediately noticeable “bright” vs “warm” feeling the Utopia and Stellia, respectively, give me.

Hey Beagle it is not neutral when listening to the Stellia without comparison. I think it is a touch south of neutral sometimes and at others not. The seal against your head can certainly affect the coloration.

coloured is pretty subjective term and open to any number of interpretations. Every headphone I’ve ever heard is colours the source media in some way as is everything other component in the chain. What sort of colouration are particularly concerned about?

I agree. However my point was, without saying colored compared to HD650 or Beyerdynamic T5P, it is difficult to say.
