Focal Lensys

They sound right up my alley. I already have all the TOTL closed backs that I need. I’m looking for the opposite to be honest.
I wouldn’t say so. I don’t really have TOTL headphones. The Hifiman offerings I’ve had are wider- the Audivina in particular are much more precise in imaging, wider, taller, and have more layering.

I would definitely urge you to try before committing if you can.

What made you decide?
They’re great as a beater set to be honest. Can’t really fault them sound wise (keeping expectations in touch) other then lacking a bit of the ‘fun factor’- A great inoffensive beater set overall.

Mostly keeping them as I’ve come to the conclusion they isolate well enough, not fantastic, but well enough for my use cases. I have IEM’s only for this reason so I may sell them on as I really can’t be bothered sticking stuff in my ears any more.

For anyone in the UK looking for a set, Hifonix are doing a little discount code meaning they cost around £550 delivered.

Just sold my MDR-Z1R. I'm working with a distributor in Canada to purchase a set of Lensys so I placed a 30% pre-order on them already. I got a great return on the MDR's so I'm also looking at possibly pulling the trigger on an Hadenys as well. @Skev You've owned both. Are they different enough to own both or would you chose one or another?

Unfortunately I didn’t have both at the same time to do an A/B comparison. You could look at it as one open & one closed to justify having both 😂. Seriously though I think the Hadenys (from memory) were more ‘fun’ and the Lensys a bit more revealing and neutral. For me overall the Lensys wins but I have the Audivinas/Grados for some fun factor too.

Sounds good. With the money that I sold my Sony's for I can basically get both without spending anything extra so I might just pull the trigger on them both.

Hadenys are on the way. Should have them by the end of this week or early next.

I'd like some closed backs which are studio accurate, lightweight/comfy/portable and I'm a fan of Focal, so these seem perfect.

I'm just hoping these will still be enjoyable enough to replace DT1990 as studio headphone which is also fun, the one review on YT praises the low end so looking good.

I have the SRH1840 and I would say, as before, the Lensys seem to be W shaped so do provide a bit of fun in comparison to neutral headphones like the Shures; however maybe not as engaging as the Hadenys. I use them a lot for casual or portable use and don’t find them lacking.

Think there is a graph floating about now (not that I look at graphs/measurements)

Thanks for the info. In your experience, is the Lensys an intimate and forceful sound, or more laid back and relaxed? At least one review mentions the Azurys/Hadenys take a more laid back approach compared to previous Focals.

I currently use the DT1990 as an everyday/studio headphone and while there is nothing wrong with it, I've been patiently waiting for a headphone to use alongside for pure listening sessions which can be for multiple hours. Ideally it would cater for all the above, be studio accurate but sound beautiful, plus closed back for versatility/portability yet still have decent soundstage. I'm not asking for much. :)

I think the Lensys so far sounds like a contender for a good all rounder - studio focused, closed but sounds open, lightweight and easily portable with a backpack (DT1990 case is huge!) and deep bass extension so should be quite fun too.

Thanks for the info. In your experience, is the Lensys an intimate 'in your face' sound, or more laid back and relaxed? At least one review mentions the Hadenys take a more laid back approach compared to previous Focals, which appeals to me a lot.

I currently use the DT1990 as an everyday/studio headphone and have been looking for a long session 'pleasure' headphone to use along side. Ideally there would be a headphone which can do both, and be closed back for portability/versatility yet still have decent soundstage. I'm not asking for much. :)
I would say it’s definitely more up front and energetic than the Shures. Trying to remember the Hadenys in this regard, probably similar but the Hadenys probably exhibit a tad more ‘lushness’ that make them sound a touch more laid back? The soundstage is pretty similar, again, from recent memory… the Hadenys possibly very marginally wider.

I would say the Hadenys is iFi where Lensys is Fiio - to propose them as a simile (loosely)
