FLAC vs Apple Lossless: Is There a Difference?

Can you really hear random highs and lows or details that are lost in mp3? Or is the difference is just static?

You only hear highs sounds or noises. Comparing 128kbps to uncompressed, you can even hear what the artist is singing etc. When you compare 320kbps to uncompressed, it's mostly noise.
With both Apple Lossless, and Flac there was complete silence.

Man that is cool! Hearing even what is signed. I am downloading audacity, see for myself. But you can upload them to upload sites like rapidshare.com or megaupload.com for other folks. thanks for the good idea.

Here a link that I uploaded:

Tell me if it works or not, it's the difference between uncompressed and a 128kbps mp3 file.
note that it's in aiff I did it so it will not lose any more data.

UPDATE: It seems like it going to take forever to load in your browser, so I recommend downloading it.

Just keep in mind that if you try this methhod, the mp3 files have a latency compared to other lossless uncompressed files, so you will have to match every single sample of the 2 tracks.

Here's another one, 320 vs 1411kbps:

again, download it, sorry for the large file. and if you can't play it on windows, I'm sure VLC can play it. and probably Windows media player and quicktime player can play them too.

You'd have to go to a public file sharing site like Mediafire or Megaupload for that.

Yes, I'd love to upload some files that I made, but I don't know how to upload files here.
Can you please tell me how could I share .aiff files?

Sorry to bring this thread up again, but are you saying that 128kbps is better than 320kbps? I've been converting my ALAC files to 320kbps MP3 for smaller file storage on my iPod Touch...

It means 128kbps is a lot worse. The sound you hear after inverting the audio is the sound that's been deleted from the compressed audio file. So I meant that the compressed 128kbps file even took out a lot of the voices and instruments that's not that hard to hear.

He's basically saying that 128kbps distorts even lower regions (mids/bass) while 320kps is only affected in the high regions which results in some noise. 320kbps is of course better than 128kbps.
