Hi all, so i decided that i want to build my very own B22 + Opus DAC soon, but first i need practice. Since i also needed a phono stage, i decided to buy a haggleman buggle phono stage. Do you think it will be a good first project? And what would you call a good tougher project to build after this one?

Greetings luidge,
I am of the opinion that a c-moy is the perfect first DIY project ... if you build it from scratch. It's one thing to put some parts on the right place on a pcb, but totally another to design your own layout - even if it's so small like a c-moy!
If I were you I would start building a little c-moy with the help of Tangent's tutorials and after that I would build a little power supply ... then you are familiar with standard parts and basic soldering.

Good luck and best regards,
bearmann

If you are heading down that path anyway, a m³ is good practice, with a STEPS PSU... and can be done for about $250 if you are a good parts shopper, and less if you have a good surplus electronics store nearby. Plus, there are build threads, and copious amounts of build directions on Ti's site (amb.org). I built two as my second ever projects, but are tough enough to get you geared up for the beta.

Oh, for reference, I built the m³ BEFORE cmoy (why bother), and MINT (disaster, as I can't solder smd). Just depends on your level of motivation, ability to read / follow directions, and threshhold for pain. It will get you better prepared for what is coming, and the basic topology of Ti's designs. Further, if you can't do a m³, do NOT bother chasing the dragon of beta22.

I think the Bugle is a perfect first project. An excellent phono preamp for an amazing price. A Bugle is no more difficult that a cmoy... It's just like building multiple cmoys on a single PCB

Ok thank you guys.
I don't know about the M3 i already have a PPAv2 maxed untill then. And knowing that the DIY project don't sell too good these days i don't think it would be suck a great idea. Maybe a Mini3 would be more like it so i could use it on the go. Ill start with the bugle and see where it take me.
