I'm trying to put together my first home listen setup and would really appreciate some advice/feedback. I initially planned on find a new pair of headphones and pairing them with a portable amp, but now I'm leaning towards non-portable setup (and using IEMs when on the go) and purchasing a pair of AKG Q701's. I've been searching around and doing some reading the past few days and here's what I've come up with...

I've heard good things about the Objective 2 amp paired withe Q701's and its seems like it should work well for most other headphones for future listening. For now I plan on using my iPhone and iPod as the source and saving up for a decent a DAC later as I've heard the DAC's built into Apple products are decent. Does this sound like a reasonable plan for my first home setup?

Also, am I better off using the headphone out or the line out of my iPhone if I don't have an external DAC?

Thanks for the help and sorry if that was confusing. I am fairly new to all of this as all of my previous headphones gave decent sound with just my iPod.

Apple products seem to come with decent DACs.
The cheapest external add-on DAC that can work with your portable apple products is the HRT iStreamer, $150.
Using a Fiio L cable from the iPhone's or iPad's LOD port to the Objective 2 is what I would use.

Thanks! I'm not too concerned about needing a DAC that will work with my iPod at this point. By the time I get one I'll likely be using an extra computer instead since this will be a non-portable setup.
