Hey!
 
I want to get my first Amp/DAC this season, and I'm having trouble deciding between two options. I would appreciate any knowledgeable opinions, ideas, recommendations, or a simple 'pick that one!'. I also plan on getting the Sennheiser HD650's, and my main source is my computer.
Because I live in Canada, my options are more limited, especially in my price range, about $300 for an amp/DAC.
 
My top two choices are the ALO Island, or a Schiit Vali (amp) and Loki (DAC) together. Both these options are about $300 here in the ever-so-northern Southern Ontario.

The Schiit Loki is a DSD only DAC, I would go for the Modi or an ODAC and Use the Magni or O2 over the Vali, the Vali is known to be a bit worse than it advertises.

I'd also recommend Schiit in you price range. Vali/Modi is a nice little desktop setup for pretty cheap, and found Vali to sound pretty great with HD600s.  Magni is fine too, and a slightly cheaper alternative.
 
Unless you are using DSD, you have no need for Loki.

I'm leaning toward either Vali and Modi, Asgard 2 and Modi (for a bit more money), or JDS O2+ODAC combo. The ALO is still on the table for me though. I'm going to keep reading and try to find my best option
