Livewires:

Better high end detail
Less warmth and more clinical textures cause they employ armatures vs. dynamic drivers.
Solid bass but not quite the chest thump you get from the Atrio's
Build seriously well for the stage which is my primary use. Replaceable cables and such.
Custom molded!
$300

Atrios:

Killer low end and mids
adequate highs
Better texture and "realness" (yes, I made it up) due to dynamic driver design
Not custom molded
Not built as well as the Livewires
$130

The only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on the Livewwires is

a) Is it gonna have that peaky treble spike at 7khz that makes my ears hurt and makes symbols and vocals smear/tear? Cause that's the whole reason I'm replacing my UM-2's. I can't stand it.

b) Is the texture quality (realness) so much better on a dynamic driver IEM that it's worth putting up with a universal fit IEM with less high end extension?

c)How much better is the treble on the Livewires?

Can anybody help answer these questions? You'd be the coolest kid in school if you can.

Lots of people from the Singapore forum (headphonehaven.com) have ordered the Livewires locally. I'm waiting for to hear from them before I pull the trigger myself.

Yea, that's kind of where I'm at. I guess i could order both and return one. Have to do research on the Atrio's and see if I could return them.

The problem, of course, being that Livewires' 30-day return policy only applies in the US

What are you basing this statement on? The best IEM's use armatures not dynamic drivers and I can attest to the texture quality of the armatures in the E500's to be top notch.

I'm basing that on my own personal experience of using both and hearing a difference. Most top end IEM's use armatures but don't forget about Future Sonics, one of the pioneers in the business using strictly dynamics.
