Reader for about two weeks now, first time poster : )

So I'm trying to decide what headset will suit my tastes best...since there is no definite "best" headset due to subjectivity

I've been leaning towards the AKG K701 using a CK2III and a sound card, which I haven't picked out yet. After reading around, I've become concerned that the AKG K701 might be a bit shy on bass, so I've started considering the Sennheiser 600 or 650 using the same setup.

I'd love to try all of these out first hand, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find any good audio stores in my city (Cincinnati, Ohio). I did however get a chance to listen to a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 pro-80's using a Numark HDX turntable and a Rane TTN 57SL mixer to drive it. I think the amount of bass was just about perfect for me, but i felt it got a little dirty, especially the really low notes, when i turned the volume up. The mid and trebel didn't feel particularly prominent, but when the "clap" noise played from the song it felt like someone just hit a woodblock instrument right next to my ear inside a hollow empty room. In otherwords, the "clap" sound felt earshattering compared to the rest of the higher register of the headphones. I think that a big reason I didn't like these is because they are closed, hence why i am primarily considering the open style headphones listed at the top.

For reference above:
Rane mixer - Rane TTM 57SL Performance Mixer with Serato Scratch LIVE Software and more Battle at GuitarCenter.com.
Numark turntable - Numark HDX Tabletop CD/MP3 Player with 80GB Hard Drive and more Single at GuitarCenter.com.

To give a bit more info, I enjoy listening to just about everything but country. On one end of the spectrum i like to rock out to rock, rap, RnB, and anything rythmic. And on the other end I like listening to accapella groups and solo vocalists jammin on their acoustics or grand pianos. I completely understand that not all of that can be encompassed by one headphone, atleast at my price level so I'll try to clarify further. I like my speakers clean and responsive, with a little extra power in the bass. I don't like my bass super loud and dirty like the typical pimped out car stereo or my logitech 5.1 system which shakes the walls on the lowest bass setting.

To put things into numbers on a scale of 1-10, 5/5/5 being perfectly neutral bass/mid/trebel -

Beyer DT770 - 6-7/4/4
Logitech/Car Stereo - 10-11/2/2
My Ideal Taste - 6-7/5/5

So i guess what im wondering is, do you think that the AKG K701 paired with an CK2III, or a more bass colored amp would suit my tastes, or perhaps the Seinnheisers with a more neutral amp? open to suggestions in the same price range as well, thanks for reading
