Weird, but I like them. I wasn't prepared for their physical openess after having headphones that always have touched my ears.

I'm such a newbie I really can't offer up any kind of review, but I do agree with others that have reported that they they give great sound. I'm finding it hard to describe. I'm not comparing them to Ety's , but the difference between the K1000's and and regular headphones remind me of when I first got my Ety 4S's. The first thing you think is whoa, this is really different.

I'm a little confused by the pictures in the manual. I swear that the lock tabs that allow the headphones to tow in and out are at the rear in the manual pics. Mine are on the front if the rear of the speakers are to pivot out. Geez, I'm probably wearing them backward, as the logo on the headband looks wrong when compared with the manual picture.

Can any owners of the K1000's set me straight? I feel a bit of a fool for asking, but surely the rear of the speakers tow/flap out, right?

Next month I'll have to get some cables from Stefan AudioArt, assuming I don't try to wear those backasswards

Welcome to the K1000 lover club

One simply way to tell if you are wearing it right, there's a "L" on one side of the phone, that means it's the left side.
Hope you enjoy K1000 as much as I do

Happy listening.

Glad that you are enjoying what I think is the best set of cans on the market for less than $1000. I love mine...it's all I listen to lately. The openess really blows me away.

I also just got new K1000s courtesy of Macdef.

I really like them. Out of the box, they a lacked a little bass, but nothing that could not be cured by the Bass control on my McIntosh amp. In fact, they are just wonderful when I set the bass at 30Hz to the 2 o'clock position.

Interesting too... they have a very, almost uncannily simaler sonic signature to my highly-modified AKG K340s. AKG must have a "house-sound". The 340's are a tad less extended in the highs, and go deeper in the bass, and obviously sound more closed in, being a closed design. Its kind of creepy, because with the 340s, I sense the space of the venue a more, but don't get the K1000s soundstaging.

I also now have almost all the same headphones as Elrod-Tom, safe for the Grado's which I will never warm up to. How did that happen?

Welcome aboard!

Yes, you are wearing them correctly if the locking tabs are in the front.

They are a great set of phones, and will be even better when you add the Eqinox cable.

Welcome to club K1000!

The way I tell if I'm always putting them on right is the direction of the cable. It should be going away/in front of you because the're going forward in the direction of the amp.

I agree about AKG house sound. I sold the 501 when I got the 1000 because they seemed like less of the same thing.

I have made a series of cables(Taralab speaker cable, Canera 21awg star quad, 14 awg star quad) to test. They are all still in burn-in period. But they all perfrom better than the stock one.

Your the man! I was afraid to cut the tubing to get enough spread to reach the terminals of my Krell KAV 300i, and put some Monster banana ends on. I've got a long way to go to catch up with this forum.

Have you found a way to extend the length of the stock cable without hurting the quality of the sound? I'm not talking about adding a great distance. Just a couple of feet.

??

You could do this with a Neutrik to Neutrik cable, but as long as you're making an extension anyway, why not terminate the cable for the amp you want to use?

At first with the stock cables I thought K1000 sounded great. But after living with better cables, when I put back the stock cable, I can't believe how much it veils the midrange while leaning out the bass.

The short cable I made out of Vampire enamal/solid core copper wire really sounds much more clear and transparent with better bass (2 wires per leg). One can make this contraption for very little money, especially if you just tin the tips with solder without spades (which sounds better without spades anyway).
