Which one did you get? I have the DVD player CP72 which also plays DVD-Audio.

Yeah, I love mine. I'm not sure what you're using for a source, but I found that when I upgraded my CD sources that they can get very close to the DVD-Audio in the real world. The big difference is good DVD-Audio discs are much better defined and of course, usually feature multichannel. From my limited experience, it seems to me that players for DVD-Audio can be made to sound better at a lower price point than CD players can. Highly recommended discs:

Neil Young - Harvest
Miles Davis - Tutu

The sound quality is stellar, although I am sure only the tip of the iceberg on what is possible...

it's a DVD-F61A, it's only 2 channel DVD-A but that's okay for me since I won't be upgradding my receiver for quite awhile and when I do I'll get a really nice universal to go with it. Since I picked this up at Costco I can even be a **** and take it back in a year or so when I do that upgrade.

yeah I think it's just cuz they are using a higher resolution DAC.

Other great DVD-A's to check out

Metallica - Black Album
Eagles - Hotel California
Linkin Park - Reanimation (amazing surround effects even though I've only heard them in DD)

I wasn't that impressed by Metallica, it just didn't seem to add that much to the CD. The Eagles were wonderful and I haven't heard Linkin Park, I'll have to give that one a try!

LAME! Reanimation is 24bit/44.1 khz! What... why'd they bother? they could have at least used 48khz... sad... oh well the surround mix still kicks ass

Edit

Actually even though the resolution is lower than some other DVD-A's it really does sound great.

I read an interview with, I believe it was Bob Ludwig, where he said we are only using about 1% of the discs potential... The future should be bright indeed!

Here's to hoping, they're really dragging their feet about getting this format out there... They seem to prefer court battles over uncopyprotected cd's... sigh...

Yep... maybe sometime around 2039 or so, digital will finally sound as good as a 1950's vinyl LP.

LOL except it'll finally compare and still have no hisses or pops!

But that'll take until 2045... and will also have 5 million speaker surround sound
