after months of trying buying auditioning and returning lots of different headphones i ve found the ones i was looking for.

the first headphones i bought were the koss porta pro and i thought: damn they sound great. better than any other headphones i have ever heard.
i never had that impression again since yesterday when i got the used shure e5s from blast0rmaster.

they sound more open and mainly feed the music with more "energy" than all headphones I have used befor. especially they provide the bass i missed with the e3c. (

You think you're happy. But pretty soon the UE-10s will be calling . . . as well as a portable amp. If you are satisifed. Run. Don't look back. Just go. Escape this horrid place of broken promises and impossible dreams. The never-reaching grasp of hopelessness that will soon consume this wretched void searches for more souls to torment. Be free!

how can little things like that sound so good. It seems so weird when you think that you can only get good bass from a 15" sub woofer then you see these little things and it just seems shocking how they can sound that good.

The more I use them the more I love them...

BowerR64,

Trust us, they sound simply amazing... BTW regarding the reason they can produce such great bass without being huge: They only have to move air inside your earcanal so it doesn't take a huge driver.

Anyway... if you're happy with your E5's.. turn away now... before you become addicted to even more IEM's... hehehehe..

Well, partial truth... I think most people who are really enamoured with the E5 sound would prefer ProPhonic 2X-S over the UE-10. Although either one will be a huge upgrade from the E5, the 2X-S's flavor is probably a bit closer.

Portable amping though.. is a completely different question.. I have yet to find a cheap, truly portable amp that's really worthy of using with the E5. I'm saying that improving the E5 in other ways than just making it sound louder and bass even more forward (which is what most Xin amp tend to do with the E5). In previous experiences, XP-7 was like, a minimum level where I felt the improvements are worthy, SR-71 might be just as good, but I haven't gotten a chance to listen to them at all.

With either the UE-10 Pro and 2X-S, I've found that high-end amps do improve their sound, but I'm wondering if there's a level at which they just "top out", which means maybe a much lesser expensive amp could do almost equally as well. I do believe there's still a minimum level of amping that you need to move to before it really justifying buying an amp for them at all. Some other members has tested them with Porta Corda II and other amps, not enough improvement to justify carrying the bulk.
