Damn. I was THIS close to buying a new MP3 player, but at the last minute I read something about 'only decent sound quality' and so the Sandisk Sansa E250 was out, and my search for the perfect portable player continued.

I am looking for a 2gb portable player. I am not fussed about extra features such as photo and video viewing, but it would be a plus to have either of these. It must have pretty good SQ, and it MUST NOT be Sony, because of there HORRIBLE Sonicstage transfer software.

I want to spend around $150USD, but weird pricing structures in NZ may make that target lower or higher.

Thanks in advance for all advice and votes!!!

The Sansas are "pretty good." Certainly by no means would I classify them as bad.

The Zen V comes really cheap nowadays; it's a steal any way you look at it. It's a good alternative.

In rank of sound quality, from best to worst: Samsung YP-Z5, Creative Zen V, iPod Nano 1G, iPod Nano 2G/Sansa e200

I had a Samsung YP-T5H, the sound quality was very good for its size, but the interface and song navigation sucked balls. (I'm guessing this has been improved upon for the YP-Z5)

I would reccomend a 1G Refurbished 2GB Nano. that is if your planning on using a amp.ampless, it would be a debate between the zen and the pod, but i dont have a lot of experience with the zen.

Reviews of the YP-Z5 said the controls where kinda hard, but the interface was good.

It would probably be used ampless, but then maybe I might get an amp later on.

I just went down to my local electronics store to see what players they had. There was one I've never seen before, the Philips GoGear SA9200, and its in my pricerange! Anyone know anything about it?

The iAudio U3 isn't sold in New Zealand... If it was, I would get it. The U2 is though, but I don't really like the screen... I'm a big fan of nice screens

Samsung YP-T9?

Yeah I looked at that...
Apart from the video playback, what's the difference between it and the YP-Z5?

The T9 is alot more expensive...

Clix is just a bit over budget... Around $300NZD (like $200USD).. And I can only find the U10 in 512MB version.

I probably won't take it around much, mostly for just sitting at home listening.

Oh, and BTW, theres a very good deal for a 4GB Samsung YP-Z5 on trademe, for just $120USD!!!!!!!! Does this change anything?

Ditto. You have to take a look at this player. It's probably the best sounding portable out there right now, and it has a slick, intuitive interface, and a nice 2.2 screen.

Yes, I would LOVE that player. But alas, it is not to be, as it is way too expensive, at $400NZD (around $320USD). I know it is alot cheaper in America, but not many stores ship to NZ, and if they did it would cost HEAPS.

Edit: I just found it for $290NZD, but thats still higher than my budget.

The YP-Z5 is only $170NZD.... Do ya think that would be a better deal?
