Some advice please from those familiar with the piano forte VIII.
Bought a pair from a seller in France. My concern is whether it could be a fake from china. The packaging seems a bit different from that which I've seen online. The case it comes with seems unusual and quite generic. It.s a plain silver tin without any branding and has a loose fitting foam insert. There appears to be minute amounts of residue at the housing joints. The print in the little leaflet appears a bit blurry. Any ideas?
I honestly wouldn't ever buy a set of PF VIIIs off of the FS section. Same goes for the Senn IE800. There are fakes out there for both. I don't know whether there are fakes of the IXs, but I know there are fakes of the VIII. Just seems like it'd be impossible to prove the authenticity of the item unless you had both sets in hand. Beyond that, the PFs are very idiosyncratic phones with a highly colored sound signature so... I dunno, you may very well think you're listening to a fake even if you had the real thing LOL

Don't get me wrong, they actually sound pretty decent to my ears. Has good mids like your typical FAD iems but its much more smooth compared to the likes of the heaven VI and fi-ba-ss. Rolled off treble and bass. Better clarity than the heaven IV. Very good soundstage like wearing headphones. I imagine the design of the housing will contribute a lot to the sound signature.
