Not at all, the pads come off like on most other headphones, they have a lip around the edge and you can pull them off with ease.
And would you know how much a pair of replacement pads would cost, as Final doesn't say anything about pads or their price on her website?
A guy here on the forum is selling a, a few months old, D8000 and he says you can already see traces of usage on the pads.

Good to know. I’ve noticed the cloth that surrounds the foam has begun to show piles, and I have wondered how difficult, or easy, the cloth could be replaced. This issue is my only dissatisfaction with the D8000 ... the sound is magical to me.

I wish there were alternate ear pads available in leather or velour.

The cloth surrounding the foam seems to be a regular nylon/cotton mix. I don't know how long it will last, since it has to absorb and will accumulate sweat, skin oil, etc.
And nowhere on Final's site is it mentioned if replacement pads are available, although Final prouds itself with the D8000 design being a "modular" design, where almost everything can be replaced or repaired.
I really hope that replacement pads/cloth will be available. If not, I would think twice to buy such an expensive hp.

I just sent an email about this to the US distributor, so hopefully I’ll receive an official account on replacing the pads/cloth and the cost to do so.

someone send me above photo, a Final Audio D8000 pad, supposedly after 4 months of usage.
I don't know what to say, I have seen the invoice, this headphone is really only a few months old.

I heard back from the US distributor and here is what he had to say about the pads:

“We have complete replacement pads available for the D8000 and they are easy to replace. If the pads become worn or defective in the warranty period we will replace them at no charge.”

I replaced my stock cables with the final Silver cables (and am very happy with the improvement), so if anyone would like an extra set, they’re posted in the classifieds.

I use my Qutest driving a HeadAmp Pico Power and I’m quite satisfied.

Looks like Final is adding a new version of the D8000 to the lineup. It's called the D8000 Pro Edition and it will come in two different finishes, black and silver.

It uses a new pad design and has been retuned to make it's bass sound 'better' when used with music that has a 'narrow dynamic range', like modern rock and pop. My guess is that the Pro Edition has a slightly boosted bass response compared to the regular D8000.

It is not replacing the regular D8000, and will actually be even more expensive at 438,000 yen.

Also, the regular D8000 is now avilable in silver as well. It's called the D8000S.

Interesting, it says they are using Ultra Suede for the new pads, I have a Filco wrist rest which used that and it is super soft! Bet that will be incredible for pads.

Pro version is made brighter, or to say precise, bass light.
Intended for louder listening and thus bass is tuned for that volume, which means it must be decreased to feel the same to that in lower listening volume.
