Final A8000 Beryllium Diaphragm Dynamic IEM Comments and Impressions

The only time I ever found the A8000 to be hot in the upper frequencies was the first few weeks I owned it, but after getting 200 hours or so on it, even with bright recordings, I find the top end beautiful sounding. final does recommend a minimum of 150 hours of play time before everything settles.

Hi guys, I've posted my impressions of the Final A8000 over at Headfonia. Needless to say, it's an impressive IEM.

Does anyone reckon that the A8000s can get reshelled? I'm half looking at these on the used market, but I'm being thrown off by the (admittedly beautiful but unpractical) mirror finish, and the probably slightly large shells for me.

I don't know if the internal design isn't too complicated.

Having seen the inner design, I'd say forget about reshelling.

In my case scenario - medium/small ears - the shell doesn't fit completely inside the concha and it's a good thing. The sharp edges at the back are just outside of my ear, and the fit is great.

I don't quite think I would be willing to go with that. I have small ears, and I don't like having IEMs sticking out of my ears : (

I might ask one or two reshelles if they might do it, and then see

Here's what's going on inside :

A smaller shell preserving the four necessary chambers is simply not feasable. It's a take it or leave it situation. I'm glad I took it.

Clocked quite a bit of hours on them now, went from stock cable (which is fine) to Dunu Hulk (which is indeed powerfully rich in that association) to CEMA Tianwaitian which is fantastic. Any genre, at powerful levels on the LPG in high gain.

A8000 gained its keeper status alongside Luna / VE8 / EM10 / FDX1 / FW01 / DK4001 / XBA-Z5 / EM32.

Ah... a fellow Tianwaitian owner. What do you think about the cable?

Does anyone have opportunity to compare A8000 to ATH-AWKT? Are they similar in tuning? I found AWKT very transparent and fast. I'm curious if A8000 might be iem version of AWKT. Maybe someone can help.

I haven't heard that particular ATH, but I've owned a number of ATH headphones over the years, including the W5000, W1000X, EW9, ESW900, and have heard dozens of others.

I think that the A8000 has a lot of the sound signatures present in ATH cans, with a slight V shape and emphasis on accurate speed. The A8000 is far better at accurately representing timbre than Audio Technicas I've heard though- that's always been an issue with ATH cans. Not a deal-breaker, but it always interfered with the length of time I owned them.

If I was going to compare the A8000 to anything in particular, I'd pick out the Grado HP1000, Sony SA5000, and AKG K1000. I know those are all fairly old headphones, but their signatures stuck with me and I think the A8000 has very interesting qualities of each, when driven by a suitably powerful source. They also have a sound signature that isn't dissimilar to the Beyerdynamic DT770, though far more competent in complex music and with far better speed and tonal accuracy.
