Fiio has responded quite a few times in this thread, they could EASILY provide a definitive answer to counter my point (and many others with the same concern).

I'm not at fault--i don't want to start trouble. I find it interesting that most avid audio fans can't easily hear the difference in sound using the same song, flipping from fiio app to any other sound app (non fiio). Heck I'm on the older end, and my golden ears have certainty deteriorated and I notice it. But hey if I'm wrong, cool.

FiiO has in the X5 III thread a few times stating that all apps use the AK DACs.

I hear Tidal as different from my library of files on many of my devices. You have to consider that many releases have different mastering and therefore will sound different. The fact that Tidal sounds different to you than a file stored on your device is not any sort of conclusion as to what hardware is used in the device, far from it.

Edit: Also, different apps may process the file differently. There's nothing new about reports of different sound from different players. Not saying you're starting trouble, but you also are jumping to conclusions that then turn in to perpetuated misconceptions.

As i already suggested i think the sonic difference would be SCR (handled by RK 3188?) on 3rd party apps and no SRC on Fiio music. Both use the DAC, one sample rate converted and the other as is. Is my estimation incorrect?

I honestly really don't know. All I know is that FiiO has said that third party apps also bypass the SRC. You can decide to take FiiO's word, or not.

Sorry you've said that about the X7 as well and here we are almost two years later and it still has plenty of bugs. You guys need to slow the releases down and fix what you already have out there.

Any bugs of X7 you have , please feel free to PM us, we will try our best to do it better.

as you may know, we always keep upgrading our firmware of X7, a new updated firmware version of X7 is coming out at the end of this month if everything goes smoothly.

Onkyo sounds better to me than fiio player,

We do find some app includes SRC inside the APP so we have nothing can do in such situation.

Thank you for the clarification James. :)

The question I would want to ask is that while your lower tier players are using dual chips, why all a sudden X7 with single chip ? Or is there a newer flagship being cooked under the belt ?

It's an 8 channel chip, like the older 9018S desktop DAC, 4 channels for Left and 4 channels for Right which allows for balanced output. No need for a dual DAC configuration with this design. Probably better for battery life and not over complicating things (keeping cost down).

I do understand it specs pretty well, I was just asking because while it would make a lot of senses when there was no one who would put a 2x configuration of desktop class DAC into a DAP back in the day of X7 MKI. Now, Dx200 has utilized 2x of this very same chips ES9028Pro. Hence my question asked

While both will have removable amp cards....isn't it certain that the possibility to go further is rather on dx200 than MKII ? Or is this engineering limitations , or is there a newer flagship under cooking

Yes, it is quite difficult to explain this to people so next time maybe we have to choose 2 AKM4497 , in fact, 1 9028 pro = 4 stereo DAC chips like AKM4497/AKM4490....

Well, it wasn't clear that you were familiar with the spec, and I gave the reasons I think they may have used a single chip. I really don't understand what the dual configuration design in the DX200 adds with these chips (overkill?) but as you are likely aware there are plenty of people who like that DAP (and those that don't).

:)

James, both es9028Pro and 9038Pro can only be reaching it highest performances in a Single, Mono, configurations. Yet, both of them is fully functional and performing when using them as a single chip for 8 channels.

Yes, AK4497 would have been a better choice because only AK is doing it to SP1000, and with lower Dynamic range in comparison to Sabres, while is also a desktop tier with multiple channels, you can always use it as Mono for the highest performances. The biggest differences here is the sound signatures, AKM chips has always been perceived as a more organic and warmer being than ESS Sabres, and there are just as much of a fan base on it as Sabres...possibly more

Now, are you saying the next flagship will be using 2x AKM4497 :D if so I am excited !!

Yes, marketing and more marketing. In my experiences, opinion, and even technical details. Sabres tent to be bright and harsh when it is not implemented properly, especially when you push it into further detail retrieval while not having enough juices. This is why many people would think ES is automatically be too bright and harsh. Then on top of that we have synergies between the players and Headphones, so some people like it, and some don't.

Implementation is very very important, but let's just say to squeeze Desktop class DAC into portable is already all about marketing, why wouldn't you go to the most extreme :D. These Chips were classified as Desktop class because they need a lot of clean/clear/stable power supplied with good cooling features

My first question about FiiO X7 Mark II is if support OTG to connect external storage devices?

Why FiiO X7 Mark II not support DSD256 if new Q1 Mark II support it?
Dear friend,

Yes, X7MKII can support OTG function. We will consider and try to support DSD256 in X7MKII as well.

Best regards
