what is it about people upgrading the moment a BETA version gets released, instead of waiting for others (like FiiO, or one of the reviewers' whose NDA should be finished by now) to tell us more?

FiiO should have mentioned that downgrading is not possible (or not with ease, i believe the firmware flashing tool could still be used for this)

FiiO DID state that it is a public beta, and that it is not yet complete.

Please be aware of this if you decide to upgrade.

Looks like NDA is not binding anymore so I can talk about it lol.

I am really impressed by how smooth the stock player seems to be. I am aware of the bugs listed in the first app but I was getting daily builds with fixed updates and believe me FiiO is working double time to iron out the bugs, they were fixing some problems within 24 hours of my feedback.

I don't get people whining about being the beta fw being buggy - i mean the whole point of the beta was that its a BETA. Its not meant for everyone to download and get a 100% stable experience. The beta thread is full of people whining despite FiiO stating clearly ALL the bugs they are aware off. I swear some people just love to complain :/  I just wanted to point out your last sentence which everyone should read several times before trying a beta.

I was smh so much I felt my neck was gonna snap lol

I was told James wasn't satisfied with the new UI and decided not to use it.

Yeah, and I have seen the new UI and it was already looking pretty effing sweet. I know that James is a perfectionist so I am sure they will up the ante and release it when its perfect, but man I cant stress how great the new design will be :)

Some happy news. The Android 5.1.1 FW appears to have fixed the initially-low volume bug on the FiiO music app.
Plus, the volume buttons now give continuous up/down control from the lock screen (and the FiiO music app has an upper-volume cap).
That's impressive considering I only made those requests yesterday

Hate to burst your bubble but FiiO was aware of both bugs months ago!

For my opinion, latest beta FW is better than I expected. Right now I don't have major problem using Fiio music app. Cover art and track list is correct. No Google Play error message. All my songs is updated to library after I found a way to deal with split folder and empty folder.

Of course there are some bugs waiting to be fixed however I believe Fiio will release a better FW after this beta one.

Uh-Oh! Looks like Xposed isn't compatible without going into TWRP/Custom Recovery. Which isn't possible on the X7, yet.

Weeee-yooooo, weeeeee-yooooooo.

The Xposed framework is not installed. Please download the latest ZIP file from XDA and flash it manually via recovery.

Not to mention that whatever hack they did to bypass SRC on third party apps (if it really happened) probably means that any system-wide audio effector application (e.g. Viper4Android) will be unusable.

I'd love to be proven wrong though! You were using V4A before weren't you? Here's the latest developments on V4A (including a new V4A version by Jason and a new set of IRS for speaker simulation on headphones by yours truly):

  A 1/3 bass reduction here. AM3 and HiFiMan  400s.

Unless I had two X7s I can't A/B now to check that, but yes, there is a reduction with AM3 balanced. Or maybe like Rebecca referred, more "treble orientated".
I think there are plenty of X7 owners that won't be very pleased with this change...

I'll wait for FiiO to say something about this, we are now focused on usability and functions but SQ is my 1st priority and I was very pleased with FW2.0, FW3 should IMHO try to match or surpass it. Surely SQL is relative but if people were complaining of body and asking bass head amps this is a regression.
My 2 cents

there are not any different in frequency response between different firmware version, it can be tested by AP, but the SQ is different because we redesign the system and APP.
