So, folks with a K5, I heard it will not accept an x7 with a case on.... But it also looks like I could remove padding from the flip-up door... Or remove it... To accommodate a case..

Thoughts?

Wait until you get it to confirm.

I have the DLNA working using Twonky server.
However On the X7 I can only see folders say A through to B.
Is the X7 limited to number of folders or files within DLNA?
There is no option to turn a page so I don't think it's that.
I scroll down and it just stops.

There is no padding on the door.

What about this:

Not the same thing in production?

This is sort of like a spacer pad for thinner DAPs.  Remember, K5 is designed to accommodate X1/X3ii/X5ii/X7/E17k - different thickness and they have to be aligned and lean against the flipped panel piece without putting a pressure on micro-usb connector.  So, K5 comes with 2 different spacers for that purpose.  Every device has to be naked to fit in.  If you want to use your X-series DAP with a case/skin on, you need to get an optional 11pin usb IC cable and hook it up on the back to Dock In port

Is this 11pin usb IC cable part of the set in the FiiO X7 box?

That's because we are the beta testers but we pay full price to be part of its development. It'll keep getting better and better as Fiio keep the updates coming.

Kinda like Early Access on Steam games eh?

Wow the AM2 module has me excited... as somebody who closely followed the original X3 thread and being dissapointed when the project was cancelled and then thrilled when revived...

Fiio has come a long way. Just amazing.

I remember buying and listening to the original X3 thinking it was a little miracle. The original X5 was also a dream come true at the time.

The X7 with the AM2 module might just be what I've always wanted. Being a Sabre fan that's an added bonus Fiio chose this DAC chip too

In other news - look at what the cat dragged in?

Mid power module is the same size as IEM module, so all current cases (FiiO's, Dignis', etc) should work without a problem. On brief listening, I'll say we finally has the amp module that has the SQ to match an external amp (*in this case, E12A and E12DIY easily).

I just purchased mine too! So excited to listen. Stock arrived literally only today in a shop in HK....

Haha, I followed the same path and have the same sentiments! The X7 is very much a fantastic improvement over the X3. I loved it with the Angie and I imagine you'd love it with your Layla's. The AM2 has me considering the X7 given that I felt the IEM module was holding back the sound a bit when I reviewed the unit. The ESS9018S is implemented very well here IMO. Exciting times for FiiO!

i have followed these instructions but x7 is not appearing as a playback device ? any ideas?

Pretty much the same sound signature as E12A, neutral with a slight rich tone.

I'll guess they are probably trying to make it easier to identify.

i own e12a so would you say that probably not worth my purchase? if not worried about stacking.

You don't need that cable, only if you want to use your X7 dressed in a case/skin connected to K5 dock amp.  To connect your X7 to computer you use a regular usb to micro-usb cable (to install the drivers).  To connect your K5 to computer, you use included (w/K5) usb to usb-B cable.

To install Windows drivers, follow Paul's (@Brooko) detailed instructions here:

I think you might have the wrong idea about this '11 pins' cable - a typical microUSB cable (the kind that does come with FiiO X7 and most Android smartphone) only has 5 pins, and that's all you need to connect X7 to your PC for files transfer or USB DAC function. You ONLY need a special 11 pins cable if you want to get the line-out from the microUSB port in X7. However, X7 already has a 3.5mm socket that you can get the line-out, so there is very little to no reason why you want a special 11 pins cable. Besides, I don't know anyone is making this kind of special 11 pin cable for FiiO yet.

In that case, keep the E12A.
