Hey everyone,

I have decided that I need to get rid of this iPod touch and horrible iTunes, I can no longer deal with this thing. To add music should be as simple as dragging and dropping to me, nothing else. So I've seen the Fiio x5 2nd gen, and it seems up my alley but I wonder if its more of a higher power device then I'm use to lol a bit confused.

oh I heard the Fiio x7 is coming out, but not sure when... anyway just a few questions....

1. Can I just drag and drop files, without using iTunes, but still organise music by genre, artist, album etc? is this done on the device or on pc

2. Can the volume be turned up louder then normal? in iTunes u can tweek it

3. What is the best headphones to use with this device? I prefer small but with good bass, nothing looking like ear muffs lol

4. Do you have to use 'lossless music files' to use this device? as i have mp3s thats just standard quality, not HD

5. Guessing I can use this on a mac? I have a MacAir

6. Any recommended online venders to buy this and headphones?

I think that's all for now that i can remember lol. any guidance or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank You All.

1) Yes. You can drag and drop files in Windows Explorer onto the device, then you can display them using the file metadata like artist, genre, etc.
2) Not sure what you mean by "louder than normal." The X5 will have a more powerful headphone amp than an iTouch.
3) It will work well with a large variety of headphones because it has a good headphone amp.
4) You can use mp3s. Although if you don't have high bit rate mp3s, might as well get the X3 and save yourself some money. With poor audio source files, I don't see the benefit for you with the X5.
5) I am not sure (not an Apple person).
6) Amazon is an obvious one.

Thanks for your reply, oh really the X3 may be more suitable then? I really like the look of the x5 if honest, but yeah my files are generally poorer audio files. so x5 will not work with poorer audio files? I may have to look at memory and space of the two and make my choice.

Cheers

It's not that the X5 won't work. If you are using less than 256k mp3s, they have some distortion added due to the compression. As it is, the X3 to X5 is not some giant jump in sound quality, and the perception of the differences will be more noticeable with better source files. The X3 is a very good player and generally considered better in SQ than any iPod. So your bang for buck is less with poorer audio files.

Also, what is your overall budget for headphones and player? Could be you are better off spending more money on headphones. For instance, I wouldn't spend $350 on the X5 and $150 to $200 on headphones. Best sound quality for your money is the other way around.

Also, what headphones (make/model) do you currently have?

I have done some research and it seems the X3 seems more towards what I want, firstly I like a lot of bass and I heard the X3 gives a better bass sound, that always wins me over. As for budget, I do not want have, I have seen the X3 here in London for a good price and very happy with paying that, as for headphones, I just want one that will not blow, or become distorted. Again, I prefer headphones that can give deep rich base tones, I play a lot of soul, reggae, african house music. Currently, I am just using standard vegan headphones made from bob marley camp, wooden hand made, not expensive at all. I do own a pair of over the ear sennheiser headphones, but I was not impressed with them to be honest. Prefer the cheap bob marley ones.

Cheers

Once you get your X3, then take the train to HiFiHeadphones one afternoon. They have a lot of headphones to demo and would be able to help you out: http://www.hifiheadphones.co.uk/ :)
