I've been told that the X5's digital output does not carry EQ. Whether EQ is desired in the digital output is debatable, I guess we should make this an option if possible? :xf_eek:

Not to tone down the request, it might well be valid but at first sight a digital out is a straight transport to be fed to an outside system like your home sound system which will most likely be better equipped to process the sound (better EQ system) so you want the signal untouched IMO. Now as far as making it an option, if it's not too much trouble and it won't inject bugs in the firmware and it can easily be toggled, then why not.

I don't see the need for EQ on a digital out feed?

Was trying to make the requester feel good.

Actually, I have a coax digital input on my JH Audio A3 portable amp.  There are USB and line inputs to this amp, but the digital is so much better.  However, the EQ features may well outweigh the advantages of the digital signal so maybe I'd ditch the A3 amp and get new headphones - a very expensive alternative!  The optimal solution would be the EQ on the digital output, but I realize not many people see the need.

Over on the X3 thread you mentioned the possibility of computer software that could configure the EQ and then be download to the player.  30 band EQs are so much better than 3 or 10 band.  If that is still a possibility, and it would work for the digital out on either player it would be fantastic.

What are the changes in 1.20? It would be good if there was a changelog posted online (or is there one that I've missed?).

Did any of the reviewers compare the signature of the X5 to the T51/Sflo2?    Is it similar?(or could you tell me the page someone mentioned those players on in this thread?)   thanks!

The new versions are coming in too fast for people to write changelogs :p
Version 1.21
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qoqyti6c01z7e9p/x5-fw1.21.zip

Changes from version 1.15:
1. Addition of support for DSD decoding (.DSF and .DFF files, up to DSD64)
2. Rewrote lossy formats (e.g. mp3) decoding to remove mp3 and ogg vorbis artifacts and increase decoding resolution to 32bit.
3. Addition of external OTG storage support.
4. New UI for file browsing and selection of songs by category.
5. Player's screen will now turn off after the predefined screen timeout interval when charging.
6. Deleted lockscreen prompt (ie. screen will stay off when buttons other than power button are pressed when screen is locked)
7. Fix for issues with the X5 not being recognized upon connection to computers.
8. Numerous other bug fixes.

Known issues:
1. Volume of FLAC and DSD playback is lower than usual.

I'm bugging people to write a changelog for me now, but version 1.21 is highly recommended over previous versions. It finally adds DSD support and 32-bit mp3 (and other lossy formats) decoding to a stable firmware base. RobC also noted that it fixed his connection problems with the computer where other firmware versions after 1.10 failed before.

Good to know Fiio is working hard to make the X5 as good as it can be.
Looking forward to that changelog.

Cheers
