Fiio X5 3rd Gen

This is probably a really dumb question but I have spent half a day with my new toy and still cant get any music on to it. When I drag and drop I get a prompt that disk is write protected. Where is the switch, setting or what is the mystical incantation that ones needs to chant.

Do you have the card plugged into the computer via adapter or the X5 via usb?

Don't have a card in it yet, just wanted to put a little music directly on the X5 so I could have a listen to it.
