Fiio X5 3rd gen || 2x AKM 4490 || Balanced Out || DSD || DXD | DTS | Android || Dual Card Slot

good luck to all here
I just got my A&K SR15 and there is a obvious sound quality improvement.
Its not pure android like the fiio but the UI response is fast and the AK player just works.

I wouldn't sell FiiO yet. I would probably make a heavy head from the updated A&K 70 after reading this review ..
https://www.headfonia.com/review-astell-kern-sr15/2/
A 2 year newer $ 700 machine could also have better parameters. Google Play and mainly paid applications without hope, PCM max 192 kHz with problems, only DSD 64 only, AptX only, no cover, connectivity with Mac OS problem, all software goodies that have UAPP for 7 Eur including Tidal, Quobuz, MQA, upsampling, renderer, DLNA. I hope the DAC Cirrus CS43198 Logic is a big difference in sound and equalizes the price difference ...

Anyone who has suffered Fiio deserves some happy times. Good listening!

It can be said that what doesn't kill you will make you stronger. Good school, just a pretty expensive school cost.

The only thing thats better on the Fiio is full android and dual SD cards.
Fiio and SR15 only support native DSD up ro DSD64.
SR15 has APTXHD while Fiio has AptX only.
Or are you comparing AK70 with SR15?
People who owned both say SR15 does have slightly better sound.

Hang on - you'rE comparing a $700 DAP in this thread with one which retails for $280 ????? Put it against the M11 - then its at least fair.

Headfonia on the SR15: “I heard that their main-sound-engineer spends three days or so without eating before he sets on a device’s signature. While alarming, this also shows quite some dedication to the job.”

Sorry for the AptX HD, the translator probably did not consider HD letters as essential. But this does not change anything on the price / performance ratio. I took into account the original X5-III price of 478 Euros for which it was bought by the first owner of my machine. Today's price of 253 $ at Fiio Shop gives a completely different ratio. Only USB output without SPDIF escaped me. If you didn't read all the readers' posts at least one

I found the gapless to be terrible with high resolution flacs. It’s fine with 16-bit stuff though, but yeah, I’m a tad disappointed with my SR15. I find it lacking in basic stuff, like shuffle play and continuous playback. It doesn’t play the next album it just stalls all the time

I have no doubt about the hard work of South Korean engineers, seriousness, perseverance, etc. (I am probably the most loyal Samsung jerk - even from Galaxy S with Windows mobile - I've always ended up with Cyanogen mod or LineageOS because of the TouchWiz child extension. Great hardware - crappy software). Even there engineers are going to the maximum.
After two awakened nights, I don't know where my ass is and where my ancestor is.
(I just guess they don't sleep from hunger when they don't eat)

To DSD 64 native short extract from dumpsys media.audio_policy from my FiiO. Certainly delighted, though, that I do not hunt for more-resolution albums than DSD64 (and converted from analog CD by HiRes wizards)

Hi guys,I've away for a while, but don't know what happaned with my x5III on last updates. It just became slowww to death. I think it has 2 partitions now, what seems to be a very bad idea to me. All the times my music jumps and get just crappy. What they did to fw? There are some fix or I must move to alternative fw or oy X5 is now a paper weight? (Sry for not doing any any previous research before this post, but I'm very pissed and rather listering to my smartphone than turn on my Slow Motion X5 and get angry!!!)

I mean you’re not wrong that later firmwares did actually neuter the device (probably to accommodate less tolerant hardware revisions).
But stock firmware hasn’t been updated since April. What versions did you move to/from?

I think you’ll find some solutions here, they’re not hard to find!

Since the last update I just get no music found every time I switch it on, doesn't matter if I do a scan. Switch it off then next time switch on it's the same.

Certainly there are enough users to have half-size optimized * .dsf files on their player.
Maybe everyone knows that the wavpack can be played without converting it to PCM.
Unfortunately, Foobar on PC still directly converts it to PCM, for example DSD64 to PCM 352.8 kHz under Win 10 (OK - 2822400/8 = 352800).
MPD server in Linux probably only can read and play dsf in container wavpack native.
All current live Linux distro is enough, 1 SACD album takes about 3-5 minutes for stereo track.
Very good and simple manual to split SACD iso
https://thepenguin.eu/2017-09-29-how-to-convert-sacd-to-dsf-dff/

Convert dsf to wavpack
https://thepenguin.eu/2018-01-02-losslessly-compressing-dsd-files-with-wavpack/

Unfortunately, our player plays * .wv files only in OMNIA player, AIMP, Foobar2000 and UAPP.
FiiO Music, Hiby Music doesn't even load the file format.
UAPP recognizes, but does not play through the internal DAC, only via USB output to external DAC.
But only when setting the USB audio - DSD to PCM conversion. Very decent.
(The funny thing is that Extream on its website has always refused wavpack with dst support - Tidal, Quobuz, MQA is a more profitable box, I understand)
Omnia Music, Foobar and AIMP read it as 44.1 kHz PCM without external DAC.
But they have the option to resample each one according to their capabilities - OMNIA up to 384 kHz,
and thus processed to an external DAC (unless the default use of external DAC for UAPP is enabled).
Does anyone have a better experience with the new versions of Neutron, ONKYO or Poweramp ?
