Hmm:
"The FiiO Link will initially be available on the FiiO M6 with the company committing that the functionality will be available to the FiiO M7, M9, X5III, X7 and X7 Mark II via a firmware upgrade at a later time."

Dear friend,

The FiiO link function will be updated in the X5III. But the Bluetooth receiver function that user mentioned can not be supported by the X5III. That means the X5III is not able to work as a Bluetooth AMP like the M6.

Best regards

(offtopic) - Ok so asking the pros then - given that the love has left the room... what's the next best upgrade?
Keen to get my hands on a new toy to mod and create a custom kernel for over the festive season. Looking at the A&K Kann but it's got the same DSP tbh so feel a bit cheated.
Hiby R6 is waiting for you! We got Android 8.1 recently but battery life has suffered in the upgrade. The R6 needs your magic kernel!

Hey Jkbuha
is your OS on the Fiio Spyware, Trojans, Hackers free?
Thanks

Worth an answer.

No it doesn't contain anything you mention. But I guess if you're asking such a question then you probably don't understand how a kernel works, so it's probably not for you anyway. Also my code is open sourced so you'd know what's in (and out), even if such a thing were possible.

Separately, for various reasons - but mainly best practice - you really shouldn't be installing anything other than music related apps on a music device, ideally without any personal info other than a Google / Streaming logins. And just to be safe always use two factor authentication.

All the more reason then why you should read up on the key differences between a kernel and an OS. And do read my suggestions again around best practice.

Could someone tell me if the balanced output is better or worst than the unbalanced one?!?!
I'd like to buy a new cable in this discount time but don't know if balanced or a normal one

I think it is more or less a personal taste / choice.
Yet, generally speaking, I would say it is very likely that the majority will vote for the balanced output.

Hi all. It is very interesting to see so many posts on mods on X5iii. May I ask what's the main purpose of these efforts? So far I've had no problem playing Flac, Ape, and DSD files. Would I miss out anything if all I've been using is the default player on Fiio Music mode?

Or put it in another way: If a guy just bought an X5iii, and he wants to take it to the best, what should he download/modify on the X5iii? There are 950+ pages here, maybe it'd be great if some experts here can make a good summary to make it easier for newbies?

The mian purposes are:
- get better sound
- improve the efficiency of X5iii (in terms of responsiveness of the UI, battery life, heat generation etc)

I believe the "mods" that are being discussed mostly actively are:
- fidelizer ROM
http://www.fidelizer-audio.com/fiio...nd-signature-is-now-fixed-with-as-odexed-rom/
- kernel from jkbuha
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/fii...-dual-card-slot.828402/page-951#post-14713601

the links above should be a good starting point for you to know what are these mods

No expert and nothing against the modifications being offered (I have Fidelizer) but my advice is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I had many frustrating issues with the X5iii but now have finally seemed to move past them. Frankly, if you are experiencing no issues, I wouldn't tempt fate. And I'm certainly not suggesting this discussed kernel mod or Fidelizer would have an adverse effect. I just think the X5 is incredibly persnickety/tempermental.
