There will be a large impedance difference between headphone out and line-out. This can cause frequency changes.

It likely causes some not so good interactions, especially with a dynamic driver around the driver resonant frequencies.
Brooko mentions impedance, the line out has an output impedance that works for driving the inputs of other devices. Not headphones.
I doubt it can supply much current either. I am not at all surprised that it sounds different. I would think it would sound bad!

And per an earlier suggestion, I DL'd the trial version of BubbleUPnP and it seemed to work okay. I purchased the license, now it won't recognize my 2nd micro SD card, and won't let me change the Renderer.

Did you solve the problem?
Do not you see 2nd microSD from the folder view of BubbleUPnP?
Please check if the 2nd micro SD directory is set with the following Mount point setting.
Settings > Local and Cloud > Internal storage and mount points > Custom Mount Point 1(or 2) > Mount point

BubbleUPnP also refers to the Android library (BubbleUPnP does not build its own library)
If the Android library does not recognize the 2nd micro SD track, try the application to scan the external SD.
I use media.Re.Scan App. Scanning 2nd micro SD often fails, but if you do it several times it will start scanning and will be added to Android library correctly.

and won't let me change the Renderer.
Is not Nuetron displayed as Renderer?
Or it's displayed, but does not change even if tapped?
Please tell me the details.

Dear friends,

We are sorry that currently we haven't got more update about the USB audio function from the engineers. We are trying our best to improve and fix this function. Please accept our sincere apology about that.

Best regards

Dear friend,

Please send the internal_sd\FiiOMusic\crash folder to our support mailbox. And in what certain operation would this issue happen?

Best regards

Hi @FiiO

Yesterday I found a bug in firmware version 1.1.7 (not the beta version), when DAP is bellow 15% (without power saver, no idle timeouts) on balanced mode, music stop playing when screen shuts down resuming automatically on screen boot;

Its is not usual to have DAP without any charge but nevertheless is it a really annoying bug, this did not occurred on non balanced output (since only start using balanced yesterday after receiving the F9 :) )

Thanks

I've seen similar odd things with the screen on/off, sometimes when I power the X5 up it'll stop after one track, turn the screen on and it continues and will go to the next track as long as the screen is on. As soon as the screen goes off it would stop again at the end of the current track.

Though this is unrelated to the power level but I am listening via the balanced output. Rebooting the X5 or playing about with the on screen controls for a bit usually sorts it.
Is a pita when it's in my bag/pocket.

That is exactly what happened but only below 15%. At least for now it does not happen with full battery.

@FiiO

Will you please sell the SD Card Trays as spare parts.

I cannot connect my X5III to my computer so I have to frequently remove the SD Cards if I want to add new music and I am concerned that the trays may get lost. Without the trays the X5III is worthless so please offer them as spare parts.

Probably interchangeable with other brands.
