Hi Guys,

Reading all these posts is increasing my interest on X5 3, I can't wait to listen to it. A few days back my mind was hesitating between X5 3, Opus#1 and Plenue M2 but right now I am so set on getting X5 3.

Especially "Hawaiibadboy", you inspired me to go with X5 3.

Also, can you recommend me IEMs to pair with X5 3? I am looking for a straight fit rather than over the ear like the Shure IEMs (if they are too good, I will try to adjust).
My budget is $300 - 400.

The X5iii is tilted warm just a tad.
 Sony XBA-A2
Fairly neutral with room to eq in either direction.  If you have a library with all kinds like rock and stuff that set is pretty dope. You can get a balanced cable from Sony for the IEM too for that budget.

Just my 2 cents

Very nice finding!

I would had expected Ha2 to have a different sound and be brighter from my limited experience with it and how others have described X5-3, but still an interesting finding!

If I may ask, where did you order from since I haven't found it available in the USA yet?

pat----

I don't mean to be secretive, but I can't say as the seller has asked that I keep it private.

I will post up my thoughts on it when it arrives (with some fancy photos as well).

I thought FIIO was over the top cool when they took feature requests for the original X3.  The X3II ended up having replaygain and some other feature requests also.  They also removed some features, but that is another story.

The quality of their units is good.  At least the four units that I owned at one time or another have all been build with a solid foundation.

---I know the Opus line is quite nice also.  You might want to see how NMatheis reponds to the X5 III as he also has units from Opus.

I think 1 GB RAM is limitation for Android 6.0 - Maybe 6.0 is reserve for X5 4th Gen and X7 2nd Gen...I'm sure all this device comes with 2GB or more RAM.

How about compatibility of 1 gig of RAM with Android 6?

I was going to wait for the official FiiO account to chime in, but I don't think they've given a very satisfactory answer. So I'll offer a possible explanation (this is after having talked with the guys at Echobox, who also use a Rockchip SOC in their Explorer DAP):

Simply put, this is most likely because Rockchip does not officially support Android 6.0 on the RK3188. It would be basically be either impossible or require a large amount of work for FiiO to get the RK3188 that's in the X5iii and the X7 to work with Android 6.0. This is actually the reason why Echobox (or at least what the rep told me) chose to switch to the RK3128 from the RK3188 in the middle of the Explorer's development. And according to the rep, this is why the Echobox Explorer comes with Android 6.0 - because the RK3128 is actually supported for that platform.

If this is truly the case, hopefully it isn't too cost prohibitive for FiiO to go with a newer SOC for their future players.

We already got a video review from Hawaiibadboy. FiiO just got a few hundreds potential buys including myself. I don't need to read anymore.

Tumyum, Thank you very much for your support , we are working hard to release our X5iii into the market soon.

How does the dynamic range get lowered in compressed music? I thought removes stuff which we are not so sensitive depending upon a psychoacoustic model.

You're thinking about the wrong kind of compression. What you're thinking of is compression for lossy codecs during file encoding. That does use psychoacoustic modeling, which discards sounds that shouldn't affect our listening.

cleg was talking about the user of software compression during the measuring process to even out the volume across songs. This limits means there's not as much difference between the quiet and loud parts of a song as there would be naturally. As dynamism, subtlety, and sense of space all suffer.

And to keep this related to the X5 v3 thread, my review unit is on the way.

They pair rather well with the 99 Classics. I have used it straight from the X5 III and the results have been great. I also used it with X5 III --> A5 and the resultant sound is astoundingly more liquid to my ears. Looking forward to your review.
