I will receive my red x5III sometime today, the 1st thing I usually do is upgrade the firmware. I take it that I should stop at 1.1.8?
I just got a red one a few days ago and am on 1.1.9 without much of any issues. I'd suggest this version instead since it has the balanced turbo mode and added charging protection for excessively high/low temp.

Yep - kind of hoping there is a FiiO Music upgrade in the wings pretty soon. I tried upgrading, resetting both data-bass and back to factory settings. the basic sort function is definitely currently borked for tagged browsing. Folder view still good though.

Interestingly with this one, there wasn't any contact from FiiO about testing first ......

I don’t get it.

Stable USB audio out was promised at launch and multiple times afterward... still no show.

Proper sorting is paramount... should never break.

Large album art.... who cares.

Broken promises and updates... bad.

I am starting to see a pattern develop and the only common factor is the Rock Chip processor and the Android O/S in most of these firmware sensitive devices. other factors like storage capacity, battery or display size and type of DAC / OP amps all seem to vary. Could there be something in Rock Chips architecture that is not optimum for this particular application (i.e.. Android music player / streaming device)? Not saying that other chips are immune to nagging issues, but almost the entire Android mobile device line up is powered by some form of Snap Dragon. Even Samsung and its Exynos processor has limited use (mainly due to patent licensing regarding certain cell technologies). Perhaps its time to evaluate whether or not this particular processor and O/S combo are the best choice for a stable device?

Yeah, USB Audio...I've been trying to find the magic tweaking combo that'll get my X5III to work in USB mode with USB Audio Player Pro with my Meridian Explorer2; all I get is distortion and stuttering. My circa 2014 Android 4.3 tablet runs it beautifully but no go on the X5. Love the UAPP listening to Tidal MQA via USB OTG/ME2 with the tablet, wish I could make it happen on the FiiO.

@FiiO

After upgrading from FW1.1.8 to FW1.2.0 songs display/play under ->Artist->Album->Song is "broken" Song are always shown sorted by alphanumeric order instead of album order (yes my music is all correctly tagged).

Thanks
