Fiio X5 3rd gen || 2x AKM 4490 || Balanced Out || DSD || DXD | DTS | Android || Dual Card Slot

I just received a message that my pre-ordered X5 3rd gen was shipped from Malaysia.
As I understand - it is china version, as international version is not ready yet.
Is it correct that difference is only "raw" software in china version and with future updates china version will be identical to international?

That is absolutely right. The final international version will only have the updated FW and hardware wise both iterations are identical!

Hi all,

in case I would like to go balanced: What would you suggest for the X5 III?
I understand I need IEMs with detachable cable and this needs to be replaced. Would like to go for a budget version so my guess would be:

--ShureSE215
-- Westone UM XX

other options:
-- MEE Pinnacle P1
-- Fidue 83

any other suggestions?

What cable would I need? Any suggestions?
Would that be a good add-on to SQ?

I can't comment on the Shure 215s, but I have the Shure 315s and also the Pinnacle P1's. In my view, the P1's are vastly superior to the Shure's. The only caveat is the P1's are quite hard to drive well. I don't know what the power output of the X5 III is, so can't comment on whether or not it would have enough power to drive them properly. I have also recently bought a Fidue balanced 2.5mm balanced cable for the P1's.

I am also looking at the P1s and would like to know my options in that bracket. My knowlegde of IEMs is limited to the FiiO EX1

For a cable Fiio has the RC-SE1B MMCX and they have a balaced 2 pin version as well.  The Shure SE215 are OK, but unless you find them used for very cheap, I wouldn't recommend them as a primary set unless you value isolation above all else.  I haven't heard the P1 but they seem to get good reviews.  Personally I'd save up for a set of FLC8S though if you really want high end sound on a budget, but finding a balanced cable for those could be challenging.

I was also looking for good IEMs, was choosing between Shure 215, EX1 and some others..
Then I found Shure 535 Limited Edition. Costs way more but I heard it was worth it...
...and ended up buying Shure SE846.

So now I'm waiting for this gem (X5 3rd gen) to use with my new IEMs :)

You definitely made the right choice.  I really like the 846, I almost bought them quite a few times.  Once I even paid for them and canceled my order the next day.  I've spent a total of a few weeks with a friend's pair.  I was not a big fan of the 535LE though.  At the 846 price, they would have to be my main pair, and they don't suit my preferences as well as my NT6, which is why I don;t own them.

So now I really hope that they will sound good with new X5. I heard that they are very picky for the source. Fingers crossed!

Well, they do need a very low output impedance which the fiio should handle well, but yeah they hiss on just about everything.  I tried them once on a MMCX bluetooth lanyard... sounded about as good as an AM radio.

I had the SE535's and can't say I liked them unlike my SE846's which are awesome & will never sell. Only problem is you may get background hiss with some DAP's with them being so sensitive but fix for that is a  iFi Audio iEMatch. Obviously not tried with a X5III yet as awaiting my pre-order but certainly works without loosing audio fidelity that my 75 Ohm impedance adapter can have.

So, here is my initial impressions video, based on recently released FW 1.1

Warning, strong ukrainian accent is present, sorry.
Please note, it's an initial impressions only, not a full review, as I need much more time for final opinion. But actually, X5-3 looks pretty solid anyway.

Leather case looks great, but what about protective screen (something similar to what we have for mobile phones)? Will these be officially available from FiiO or we will need to wait for third-party manufacturers?
Because on many photos I've seen a lot of fingerprints on the screen and it looks messy, so looks like original screen doens't have anti-fingerprint oleophobic coating ..

A tempered glass is pre installed when you buy the x5iii. They slapped the hires sticker on top of the tempered glass too, and not in the screen.

Yeah I agree with dual lock as well, I have used my dual locked stack for over 2 years now and it still works great.  It is much better than regular velcro as the components snap apart instead of having to be pulled apart with velcro.  It has a lower profile than velcro to so the devices sit closer together

Thanks to everyone the comments, love this forum. :) Ordered a roll of dual lock off Amazon, so I'll have some to spare!
