FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

Sign me up for the Canadian tour - we seem to have enough Head-Fiers to justify one :) If not I have no problem shipping cross-border to be in the Americas tour.

I'd like to review as both a portable DAP and standalone DAC feeding the equipment in my sig, and it would be my first spin with a DSD-capable DAC (i.e. true one-bit not DSD->PCM). It will also be interesting to see how it powers voltage-hungry 650's and current-hungry 400's.

My 2nd opinion is that you need a 2nd generation X5.

Yes... he shoud have it strapped to the front, so he can operate the touchscreen.

And easy access to the ham sammiches mommy tucked in there :)

I remember seeing my first "car-phone" and the entire trunk (boot lol) was filled with the batteries and transmitter. The driver was likely swimming in radio waves lol. Thank god we can get great power/sound/functionality nowadays from Fiio-sized packages. Genius.

This has the best chance of being the perfect DAP to me. No touchscreen, compact, and I'm sure the sound is great. Let's see if it hisses on IEMs and can DAC/Amp to a computer well

From the X7 thread:

the new docking amp( K5) is under developing and it is compatible with X1/X3ii/X5ii/X7/E17K,  so you can use the K5+X7 as home system.

So the new X5 II will be compatible with the new docking system as well.

Joe, I'd definitely like to be in the X5 2nd gen world tour after the great experience I had on the X3 2nd gen tour.

-Headphones: Audio Technica ATH-R70x, Audio Technica ATH-MSR7, AKG K7XX, Philips SHP9500, Sennheiser HD598, Brainwavs HM-5
-IEMs: Havi B3 Pro 1, RHA MA750, T-Peos Altone 200, T-Peos Altone 150, Sony XBA-H1, Brainwavs S0
-DAPs: X3 2nd gen (previously owned X3 1st gen), iPod Mini, iPhone 5S
-FiiO products: X3 2nd gen, E12A (previously owned E11K)
-Descriptions and links to reviews: X3 2nd gen review "Good Things Come in Small Packages" featured on Head-Fi front page
-Geographical region: Calgary, Canada
-Language(s) you can read: English

Opportunities to try and test equipment are few and far between in Calgary, so the tour might be the one chance I have to try the new X5. If results are similar to the X3 2nd gen tour, I'm sure a purchase will soon follow!

Joe, I challenge anyone here to type more words about a portable component than I hammered out way back in 2011  -

http://www.head-fi.org/t/558314/review-leckerton-audio-uha-4-vs-just-audio-uha-120

I swore 'never again' after that effort, and several Head-Fiers have since PM'd me to thank me for honoring that commitment. Impressions are one thing, but most Head-Fiers want comparisons and personally I find that a fairly onerous chore - that said, I look forward to reading comparisons of the X5ii with the X3ii
wink.gif

Good luck with the tour.

I think 'War and Peace' was slightly shorter than what you wrote there. :)

Talk about committing to the task!
