FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

Hey guys, I have a little bit of a broad question I thought maybe you guys could give me some guidance on. I have been out of the game for a while and my gear is getting old and broke down. I think I might have narrowed it down to what I want. Before I begin, I pretty much listen to 2 different kinds of music. 50% of the time im listening to some kind of Electronic/Bass music (I DJ as a hobby) and 50% of the time Im listening to Punk/ Pop Punk. I know, strange split in music tastes. So im going to be looking for something that favors low end.

I have been using a Rockboxed Ipod video for YEARS that I have loved but It finally took a dump on me. I was looking at 160gb Ipod classics with rockbox and they run anywhere between 2 and 300 USD. Pros to this is how slim the Classic is. its a nice small package But for $300 I can get an X5G2 from amazon prime. So that brings me here. Obviously pros to this is better sound quality and you also get removable storage which I really like. So then I started thinking about a portable amp since I long sold all mine. Everyone raves about the e12 for the price and with the stacking kit for the X5G2 it makes a nice little package. Since my Vmoda LP2s are so old and beat up, I figured I would treat myself and finally pick up a pair of Ultrasone Sig Djs to round off this rig. What do you guys think, This seem like a reasonable way to go? Would you trade out any of the components for something different? swap the E12 for a different amp for more sub bass?

I know this is a SUPER broad question. I guess I just ultimately need to know if it is a dumb idea to plop down on this rig as it sits.

Last portable setup was

-Rockboxed Ipod video
-JDS Labs C421 Double amped with
-Digizoid Z02 V3
-JVC HA-FXZ 200

X5II is good by itself.

I have some phones that need an amp and some don't.

Example I like the sound of my V-moda XS without amp.

mine was good while it lasted but it's just a tad shy over 1 year.  Mine works but it somehow categorizes properly tagged flac and mp3s as "unknown genre" or "unknown artist" and I've done everything that I can think of such as removing any ape v2 tags, resetting or downgrading the firmware to the original firmware, then re updating to the latest firmware, clearing the media database and it still shows unknown genre in the list of genres.  Also the wheel has been feeling like it's about to pop off and I've been careful how I handle it every time I turn it on or remove the memory cards or charge it up.  I'm at my wits end.  I also read a post that was too late that said not to fill up both 128gb cards as it gets slower to read all the songs when you add or delete current or new songs

Hi, cirodts
You can go to the stores which sell the amp ifi nano ican with your X5II and grado and have a try by yourself first.  And then you can find the answer for the sound quanlity you prefer.

Yesterday I tried the IFI ican nano with fiio x5ii connected by cable fiio l16.
Immediately I realized that the sound loses its natural softness, the sound is very colorful and shot, I removed from IFI x5ii and finally I found his magnificent sound.
If you have portable amp attached to x5 do testing stops and starts and glaciers that x5ii alone offers more quality.
