I recently updated to windows 8.1/64bit. The usb dac function was working in windows 8 but not in windows 8.1. When I try to connect the device to my computer in dac mode, it states that it's unrecognizable and shows an empty battery on the fiio screen and then proceeds to shutdown. I know for sure the battery is fully charged though. I'm able to connect the fiio to my computer in storage mode and transfer files just fine. It's only when i try to connect it as a usb dac, that it gives me a problem. I've tried to connect to to usb 3.0 and 2.0 ports with out success. I'm able to use it as a usb dac on windows 7 without any problems. I have unchecked digitally signed drivers in win 8.1 but it won't let me install the driver unless the computer is able to recognize the usb dac. I've searched everywhere for an answer but cannot find any. Please help me out. Of note, the usb 2.0 port i used is from a usb hub that's connected to a usb 3.0 port i believe. Also, i updated to the most recent firmware that's on the fiio website.

Can you connect the X3 directly to a USB 2.0 port on the computer? I believe any USB3 recognition problem would be inherited by the "USB2" port that grows out of the USB3 port :xf_eek:

All ports are natively usb 3.0. I'm going to try to re-install all the chipset drivers for windows 8.1. Maybe that will help.. thoughts?

Did you update the same computer from 8 (where the X3 DAC was working) to 8.1 (where it's now not working) or upgrade your computer at the same time? Was it working out of a native 2.0 port when it was working, or was it plugged somehow into a 3.0 port all along?

Yeah, I updated the same computer from which the X3 DAC was working previously in windows 8. The same computer has only native usb 3.0 ports. It was working just fine out of the 3.0 port. I suspect it has something to do with windows 8.1 and it's compatibility with usb audio class 2 devices(which i think the x3 is)? Correct me if i'm wrong. I know the driver uses thesycon drivers. Do you think something like this would work? http://www.thesycon.de/eng/usbio.shtml
