Hi everyone.

I was wondering if anyone knew if it is worth it to get a DAC for my IE80 IEM's? If so, would there be a difference in sound quality between the X1 or X3's? Most of my songs are flac with some 320 mp3s. I listen to many different genres of music from pop, rock, classic (beethoven, bach, etc), rap, and techno. Some sounds I prefer vocal and better sound stage. I read many posts regarding the sound quality b/w the X1 and X3 and some say it's very similar and extra $100 price difference is not justifiable, but some say there is a clear difference. Hence, I am undecided.

Also, are DAC's mostly usefully if you have a set of cans with higher impedance? Should I bother with only IE80s?

Sorry for the newb questions!

Hey,

A quality DAC is always a nice adittion for a quality set of headphones/earphones. Both the X1 and the X3II have very good sound quality, both sound clean and crisp with very low levels of noise and distortion. Sound differences are subtle in the big scheme of things but still audible. The X1 is slightly warmer and more cohessive sounding, while the X3II is roomier and more analytical (without overdoing detail)
Sound quality becomes a subjective topic at certain point so your preferences play a very important role here.

Thanks for your reply. I do prefer a more roomier sound. After giving it some thought I might just get the X3 because of the ability to use it as a DAC for my laptop. After there any other good DACs around the price of X3's?
