First Look - https://www.headfonia.com/fiio-m15/

There really should be some type of case included; doesn’t have to be a premium luxury/leather case, just something you can use out of the box. I’d forego the wood presentation box for this.

Just read the first look. Hopefully there’s a firmware update to address the volume issue; maybe add additional steps. Also wondering how the album art/lyrics lookup will affect battery life. Hopefully this feature can be turned on/off.

How do you do this? I emailed them and they said no GooglePlay or Apple Music butthe Qobuz app would work.

https://apkpure.com/

You can install APK easily, not that it's hard to do to begin with download an app APK file and install but APK Pure makes the process as fluid as the Play Store :)

Apk pure is fine...but a no go for apps (see UAPP) who have developers unwilling to spring for other purchase authentication methods.

So Apk won't run on the M15, or are you saying use UAPP instead? I don't have Android (yet).

Am saying that UAPP in particular is an outlier that won’t run on M15, as it also hasn’t ran on any other M players lacking Play Services. PowerAmp & Neutron do verification thru email if Play Services aren’t available. If you’ve previously bought these through play store you’ll have to buy new licenses or reach out directly to respective devs and see if they can transfer your license.

Not a monetary problem I expect any M15 buyers to lose a lotta sleep over, but still.

I am betting there is a way to install play store on M15... just like people do for say Huawei Mate 30 Pro which doesn't have the play store. There are ways :p

I was expecting it to be better sounding than the SP2000 - by the looks of the specs. But as the audio engineer told me that the specs that they stated are meaningless to how the player would sound.
And from the looks of the Headfonia article, don't see it as a SP2000 beater.

if they are both technically good and only differ in sound signature then still it can be good, cause i thought the sp2000 was this accurate player that is neutral, and some prefer a warmish sound which the fiio might offer. And to be honest I did not expect it will beat sp2000 but at least it is not so far behind
I hope it is at least better than dx220 and offers more mids weight and detail in mids, as to me the android side of dx220 is not to my liking at all, and i need streaming so if fiio android streaming experience is way better than dx220 then i am in

Yeah, even though it was just a first look, it seems like his overall impression so far was, "meh". That was Lieven's opinion though. Even though he won't be doing the final review, I hope he can come back and post some followup thoughts to see if his opinion has changed.

Bear in mind, FiiO is a sponsor of the site.
His written first impressions were 'meh'.
So taking in the above point into consideration, it would translate to a laymans 'wth is this - this is not what it was hyped to be'
