How come FiiO devices have less power at 16ohms and more power at 32ohms and 300ohms than other DAPs?

I have asked this question in M5 thread and someone said current limiting.
Can anyone explain why?

I'm not an engineer, but I imagine they're referring to the fact that putting out high power at lower impedances takes way more current, versus more voltage for higher impedance.

For example, the Fostex T50RP and the HD600, specs-wise, require similar milliwatts (63.4 vs. 66.6) to hit 110db, but the T50RP requires more than twice as much current to do so. (Based on plugging numbers into headphone calculators; like I said I don't understand the engineering or math here.)

This isn't unique to Fiio devices. All amps (I think) have peak power output at some particular impedance level and power falls off on either side of that. This is why it can be super confusing to compare the power output of different portable devices, since they often only give power output at one impedance or without specifying it at all, which is pretty useless.

One maker that provides very detailed power/impedance info is Garage1217, see

here: http://www.garage1217.com/G1217PRODUCTS/Guide/Comparison Guide.pdf

Their amps have options to change output impedance, and they show how these settings affect power output for different loads. They also have some amps that are particularly designed for high or low impedance headphones, and they address that in their documentation. I wish all manufacturers provided this kind of information, would make it much easier to figure out what amps will work well with planar headphones.

@JamesFiiO @FiiO USA @FiiO I was wondering if this device will support bandcamp as well.

Also, is there an official US price yet for this product? I read around $230-300 ish...
Dear friend,

No, bandcamp APP is not supported.

The price in USA is about 299 USD.

Best regards

I intend to use the M9 as a USB DAC, connected to my laptop. I also want the M9 to send the resulting analog signal to a dedicated headphone amplifier. Is the M9's line out a 'true' line out that bypasses the M9's internal amping section? I want to avoid double amping.

Can the USB DAC function be used simultaneously with the LINE OUT function?

Thanks
Dear friend,

Yes, the lineout would bypass the M9's internal amping section. And you could use line out when using as USB DAC.

Best regards

7. FiiO M9 Hi-Res Audio Player丨The Ultimate in Versatility

The M9 supports USB audio out (send digital audio bits through USB), with even support for DoP/D2P. Also, the M9 is one of the few players that can receive Bluetooth audio and output it through coaxial(SPDIF) out.

@JamesFiiO Bandcamp would have been a great addition. Any chance it could be whitelisted in a future FW update?
