Hi guys. I own a FiiO M6 and am considering buying the Sony IER-Z1R headphones. According to the FiiO specs as, the recommended impedance is between 16 to 150 Ohms for headphone output and the IER-Z1R uses 40 Ohms.

So based on this info alone, do I really need a portable headphone amp? Would those specs be enough to use just those 2 items? I don’t want to upgrade my FiiO M6 as I’m happy with it as my DAP. I listened to the IER-Z1R so far and it sounds amazing with my M6!DAP. However, I also used my Sony MDR-1AM2 and they sounded really close in performance after I tweaked the EQ settings on my M6 DAP.

If a headphone amp is recommended, I would prefer a USB-C charging type. But anyhow, buy an amp or don’t? What do you say?

If everything sounds amazing as you said and volume goes as high as you need it, why are you even thinking on amp ?

Ier_z1R is a hard to drive buds and it scales well with mostly everything. For example, it would sound great out of Walkman Wm1A/Z, and then yet better with DMP-Z1.

according to this, you don’t have to worry much about the driving factor
