Night and day as far as power with the A306. It's rather clunky UI, but when you do the bass firmware update, it really improves the bass response and the stage, and it does sound really good (got that Sony hpuse sound), but it does not have much in terms of power. Typical low powered Sony DAP. So if you need power, the P1 or M21 will be your go-to buy. Want pocketability, portability, and good sound, then the A306 has no competition.

Thanks. Mine left the country of origin, and is in flight to the United States, so the next update should be when it's in Los Angeles at the Customs and the L.A. sorting center? So by Friday, I should know something? I'll share here how that turned out?
I still have my Sony A306 I will compare the two although the M21 indeed will have more power

I have a dilemma vis-à-vis purchasing M21 or Activo P1 or even Sony NW-A306. Sound quality the key factor for me; I’m expecting P1 to shade it, because slightly higher price point, nearer M11S. Any comparisons would be appreciated.
I have had interest in all 3 at one point or another. When the P1 was first announced I was very intrigued about owning an affordable A&K DAP. All of the professional review sites rate it very highly for sound. The problem is it hasn't been selling all that well and seems to be getting very little attention from Activo. There has been a reported issue with offline storage for streaming apps. If you check the P1 thread you will find that a fix has been promised for this for several months with no update and the thread is pretty dead, also iRiver the parent company of A&K and Activo I believe has been sold to a real estate company. So not much known about the future of these manufacturers. I have written it off now mostly because of this and because the M21 seems like a much better option now for the price. As for the A306 again very highly rated for sound quality but issues of course with the volume cap (need to buy from Japan), low output power and sluggish performance due to full open android. I have contemplated picking up a used one many times as there are tons out there but I have chosed to go for the M21 at least for now.

If you are interested in the P1 you should look at ordering if from amazon.co.jp. I found it alot cheaper to import it to Canada from there vs buying on amazon.ca The only one of the three I have any hope of demoing at some point is the M21. If you are looking for a strictly offline DAP then the P1 could be an option but I would avoid it if you plan to stream. Sorry I can't help out much with sound impressions as I haven't been able to demo any of them to date.

Anyone in the US receive one yet and have any info on customs duties/etc they had to pay?
I think a few US posters are awaiting their M21's to be delivered so hopefully in the next week or so we may get that answer. One of the benefits of the P1 is it will ship from South Korea so you won't have to pay the insane Chinese tariff.

Reddit is filled with customers awaiting arrivals at customs feeling both suspense and dread. One Chinese retailor assured a U.S. purchaser not to worry about additional fees, so that proved interesting.

P1 is very bright and thin sounding to me

Greeatings! What do you think about the sound? what are the differences in your opinion?. I have a sony nw-zx507 and I want to upgrade. I was thinking about the zx700 model, but there are many disadvantages, including those listed above.
Sony daps are so notoriously slow. Many people
When you mention it to them do not believe it. And ZX707 is faster than Wm1am2 and wm1zm2🤣
Sound is another thing when you literally can’t use the dap.

Considering the P1 is pretty scarce there have been several professional reviews on it, most likely because of the A&K connection. So to this point that is what I am going by since there is no chance of me demoing one. Not really considering it anymore as the M21 looks like a better DAP for the money. The buttons look really cheap and that multi-function one seems awkward to use. As for sounding bright and thin that may change with 100+ hours of burn in. The P1 wins on battery life at 20 hours but it is probably closer to the A306 in power output (specs not given) than the M21. I hope if any of the reviews sites that covered the P1 also review the M21 they will do comparisons between the two.

I see that the governments of China and the United States are negotiating on trade issues. I hope there is good news.

My FiiO M21 cleared customs, but in York, Nebraska instead of the hundreds of packages which went through customs previously in Los Angeles. So strange this location, but it cleared customs and no additional charges, so it's slated for arrival on Wednesday (my day off!! Yes!). I miss my JM21, so this new unit will be a welcomed sight.
