Not, in fact, we plan to remove the optical out from m17 because we can't figure out how to protect the optical connector.
James, perhaps the optical connection could be passed through a dock only connection? To protect the fragile optical cable only breakout the optical connection in an M17 dock? Pass through an I2S data out to the dock from the M17, and from the dock break out the Optical/Coax outputs? Perhaps even an optical/coax input could be fitted to the dock as well? The M17 dock would be a much more complex dock than the M15.

I was wondering about all of those connections on the bottom plate making it difficult to create a dock for the M17.

One of the nice accessories for the M15 is the DK1 dock. The M15 has a clean bottom plate with only the USB-C power/data connection making this possible.

It is very convenient to stand up the M15 on the DK1 dock for charging and desktop use. I like that the DK1 had separate connections for data USB-C and power USB-C, it would be really great if the new M17 had that capability as well.

Side or back connections? High enough on the back to plug in while on the DK1 (or similar) dock? Or perhaps multiple connections on the DK2 dock to passthrough all of the bottom connections on the M17?

Perhaps forgo the passthrough of all of the bottom plate connections for the M17, and support a desktop dock for the M17 with a centered USB-C power connecter on the bottom plate, like the M15 / DK1?

I'm very excited about the M17, but hoping a vertical dock can be fitted to the M17. :)

BTW, what version of Android is the M17 shipping with?

Yes I prefer full size SD vs micro SD.
Why? If the speed is the same or greater with the microSDXC and the microSDXC price is cheaper than Full SD, which has been my experience - more than half of my memory cards have been microSDXC - I put out for a bunch of full SD high speed UHS-II's for video recording, but other than that it's been microSDXC's for a while now.

It is true cause all the smartphone supports micro SD card and than the price is cheaper than Full SD.

1, It will be Android 10 .

2, Depended on our experience , only few people will like to buy a dock for a DAP, I like the idea and in fact we may the only DAP brand who make several dock device for our DAP but the sales it quite poor.

3, I will explain the reason why we plan to remove the optical connector soon!

Would it be realistic to expect that 1.5TB / 2TB full-sized ones will be available in the (near?) future without a hefty price tag, at least initially?

Most likely I'm missing something, I just couldn't figure out why full-sized ones are somehow (still?) a necessity in year 2021.
I don't think that the speed is such an issue for the cards; I don't have any data but how many people simply shove the card(s) into their DAP to format it and then transfer the files that way resulting in the DAP being the bottleneck. Of even if they do the initial 'fill' of the card through a high speed reader update the files without taking the card back out of the DAP?

I don't have as large of a library as some people and the highest rips I have are the 16/44K rips that I didn't start doing until ~2010. Older music was ripped to 320K mp3 and I haven't been bothered to rerip it. Having thus exposed my luddite-ishness for not jumping on the latest and greatest formats as well as general laziness, I have 1.21 TB of music that wouldn't fit onto any single microSD card. On my old X5III I get around that by using one of the 1TB cards and an older 400GB. If a newer player made me choose what I couldn't put on it I'd be a tad disappointed as I treat my DAP as yet another back up. The request for full sized SD cards surprised me also as that market has seem to have been ceded to the really quick chips used in photographer/videographer kits that outstrip the microSD card prices.

Throw in the fact that the cheapest name brand 2TB NVME drive, compared to the cheapest microSD card you listed, is only an extra $14 (or pay an extra 8% to double the storage space) it seems like a consumer friendly choice to go with NVME. I am not privy to licensing fees, controller costs/energy usage (with resultant heat production), and whatnot so perhaps there is a specific reason that Fiio is sticking with microSD. And since I am a right nosey person I thought I'd ask.

So it will be a pure solid state DAP like KANN or DX Max, correct?
