Yes, it’s very odd how some experience very warm to hot, but the other night I was listening for around four hours straight and it never heated up beyond mild warmth. Have no idea why it’s so different for others.
That's my observation as well. Even without the fan the unit remains at that room temperature; cold to the touch.

When connecting my 18Ω Fiio FH9’s or my 300Ω Senheiser HD820’s with the 4.4mm trrrs cable, the M17 does get pretty warm, but, it stays relatively cool when using the standard 6.35mm/3.5mm jack cables, same goes for my B&O H9i (3.5mm) or the B&O Portals via Bluetooth. In any case, and other than experimenting and getting to know the M17 during the first few hours after I bough it, I have used the fan on every DC enhanced mode session regardless of connector or temperature.

I am using the Sennheiser HD800s, which has a 300Ω impedance as well, and no warmth whatsoever after at least 3 hours of usage with the volume sets to 86.
It worth mentioning that my unit is only a week old, I only received it last week; with time may be things may change.

I think the perception of heat also depends on where you touch the player. I noticed that the bottom plate (with USB/power connections) gets considerably warmer than elsewhere.
Yep, same here.

Mine gets pretty warm after a couple of hours on enhanced mode driving my 300Ω cans at 80% volume. I am not one to take risks with £1500 equipment so, I never use DC Enhanced mode without the fan. FiiO included the fan stand with the M17 for good reason otherwise, the fan stand would have been an optional accessory.
My advise is to be in the safe side and use the fan regardless.
To place the M17 in the fan stand does the trick for me and the fan doesn't need to be running.

BTW I have never played at 80% of the volume with my LCD3/4. May be if I did I would need to turn on the fan too.

+ I also use a external PSU.

Did you ever find a better adapter? My iPower Elite does not fit snug either. The iPower connector is longer than the stock M17 power adapter which means it bottoms out inside the plug and not on the outer housing of the plug. This makes it 'loose' even though it's connecting power just fine. None of the provided adapters were the correct length. I don't think it's a huge deal because it's still connecting just fine internally, it's just annoying that it can move around because the tip is too long.
No, I just use the stock adapter. It seems to be OK.

Yeah, got some Dekoni angled sheepskin pads that made the 99s really comfortable. The M17 is driving them like a champ, wringing the last detail and the lowest notes the Mezes are capable of. Listening balanced via a cheap 4.4mm cable I bought on AliExpress.
I had Meze's99 and loved warm, engaging sound they had, but gave them to my brother in law and purchased Cascade, similar headphones with berilium driver and more of everything.

Gotta keep the 99s since I'm Romanian :) , but my soul is with Sony. Got both their flagships, cans and IEMs. Simply spectacular with M17, both of them.
