Is the ak4497 a big difference to the ak4499?

Trying to decide between waiting for the m15, (ak4499) or getting the YinLvMei A2. (using ak4497)

Yes I believe they’re lower in distortion and are current output rather than voltage. That requires additional components, additional design and packaging efforts to get a voltage output.

The distortion difference is probably not significant practically for me. Both are flagships.

But the implementation for voltage is an interesting concept i need to understand. If I am not worried of the noise floor, then a voltage output implementation is not necessary.

Both are pretty quite past the cutoff point at 116db and 124db.

according to digikey ... the cost of the ak4497 is $51 and the cost of the ak4499 is $84 to customers like you and me... it will be cheaper to fiio for bulk commercial customer...

you can look up the spec sheets here.. https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/akm-semiconductor-inc/AK4497EQ/974-1142-1-ND/6235385

the 4497 is 2 channel and the 4499 is 4 channel with better specs...

The signal needs to be in voltage to power headphones / speakers. Some DACs output voltage directly and some output current and thus need current to voltage (I/V) conversion.

I’m not sure the negatives and positives of each approach. But at the very least a current output device needs more components to get the signal to a usable state for the power amps.

I'm not going to lie, but the 15 hours of play-time and better output power are very intriguing considering that I use hard-to-drive headphones.

With your Abyss you probably need the Dx220 max or the YinLvMei A2 (4.2vrms Single-ended, 8.4vrms balanced)

I'm actually listening with the Abyss Diana v2 right now plugged into the M11. It has to be on High Gain, but most songs I can listen from 95-120 on the volume slider.

I think the deciding factor would be whether or not there is a marked difference in sound quality between the M11 and the M15.

I’ll be comparing the M15 to my mojo with the Diana Phi once the M15 arrives, I haven’t heard the M11 but I liked the mojo more than the IBasso dx200 with any amp if that gives you a reference
