The bull’s eye icon means there’s a balanced cable plugged in. It only comes on when the M11 is in balanced on. If you’re plugging a 3.5mm cable into the 3.5mm cable port (the one on the opposite end from the two balanced ports), then it means your M11 is stuck in balanced mode and you won’t get any sound out of your 3.5mm port. In which case, you should return your M11 and get another one. Since yours is the only M11 that’s been reported with this problem out of many thousands sold, I’d say it’s a once-off case. Return it and have it replaced.

Thanks for the advice. That's exactly what I'm going to do. looks like one of the balanced ports is stuck, not sure if the fault is hardware or software. I'l RMA its arse this week. :)

Try restore your device from recovery mode. When it is turned off, press and hold power and next track button till you see Android Recovery screen. When it is onn, navigate (witch volume scroll) to 'Wipde data/factory reset (confirm with power button) and confirm wipe by selecting yes and pressing power button. After reseting, your player should go back to main menu of Anrdoid Recovery. If not, go back and select 'Reboot system now'.

Your issue looks more that faulty unit issue instead of software problem, but let's try this  Hope you can fix it in this way.

I heard about such a problem with other devices. You can try to clean the balanced connector, maybe it has a foreign object (it helped one guy). It is unlikely that this is a software problem, most likely this is a defective product. Send for repairs with a valid warranty card.

Has the extremely loud static noise when resuming playback in sleep mode been resolved?? Can anyone confirm if this is an issue with balanced output only?

I haven’t had too much time to thoroughly test, but for me that latest beta seems to have fixed the issue (and I was experiencing it a lot).

    good work @JamesFiiO & team :)

In my experience it only effected balanced output.

Agreed - a subtle SQ upgrade won’t be enough to compensate for the loss in power, battery life and extra SD slot.
