FiiO FH5 - Quad Driver Hybrid In-Ear Monitors || Knowles Balanced Armature Drivers

Brooko a reviewer here advised during his review of the FH5 to drop the 2kHz band by 4dB and the 1 kHz band by 2kHz. I use the bass tips and always apply this EQ. I've just ordered another set and will try the balanced tips as well as SpinFits and JVC Spiral Dots.
Because of the wide but short nozzles I use large ear tips and this alone made a big difference.

Not sure if anyone here is aware, but FiiO has just announced a new FH5s. It is a 2DD+2BA IEM. It is also using a semi-open back design. This seems strange to me though, as an IEM is meant to seal and block outside noise, so going semi-open defeats that purpose.

Yes but this is by no means the first semi-open design.... While IEM's give that closed in feel they do also significantly restrict the ability for airyness and sound stage width ... letting a little air in will allow the stage to broaden in theory at least and give a wider and less closed in feel.... obviously there would potentially be a penalty of sound leak to your surroundings but that's the compromise ... don't want that ... don't buy it ...

It seems we both have the FH3 and still having the fh5 myself, fiio needed to do something with the FH5. :)

To be honest, in hindsight .... wish i'd have known from day-one that all i needed to make my IEMs both fit and sound spectacular was a set of custom tips i'd have fitted to my FH5 when i first got them .... loved the sound they made but i couldn't get them to fit no matter what .... wasted so much time, energy and money buying IEM after IEM and endless tips ... must have wasted more on that process than i did just getting a set of custom tips last month.

Live and learn!

The FH5 is one of the few IEMs that actually fits my ears properly. On the first try, they sealed without any issue at all. Over the years, I have probably tried over 40 or 50 different IEMs. None of them would offer a proper fit. The FH5 is one of the few that actually fits me properly.

Glad to know the FH5 meet your need. Thanks for the feedback. Enjoy it!

Had the FH5 on an Amazon wishlist for several years, definitely felt like a wish, until I finally got them in May this year. Really, really like them. Sound great to me.

That being said...I understand there is an opinion that removing the mesh cover makes the sound even better. But, also understand that is a damping rod or whatever that may come out if I were to do this.

So, is there any consensus on removing the mesh? Consensus is probably a strong word for what would a subjective thing...Thanks.

How does the FH5 compare to the FH5S in regards to sound and (perhaps more importantly) comfort?

I'm considering a set of FH5's while they are on sale for $159. I tried the FH5S Pro a few months ago and absolutely loved their sound. I ended up returning them due to comfort issues. I have smallish ears and in less than 30 minutes of wearing them they hurt my ear canals. I tried different tips to no avail. I don't know if it was because of the angle or diameter of the sound tubes or something else, so I'm wondering if the FH5 has roughly the same size shells and/or sound tube angle? I have the FD3 Pro and can wear them comfortably all day.

At some point I'm going to get the FD7 but now is not the time, and I like the current price of the FH5. I suppose I could order them and return them if I experienced the same comfort issues but I'd prefer not to do that.

Thanks in advance! :relaxed:

If you're referring to Amazon...it's back to $199.

The price went back up for them in silver but still shows $159 for black, but it currently only shows 1 left. I suppose by me posting this someone else may snatch them up but that's alright. Hopefully they'll get more and/or lower the price again soon if I decide to give them a try.
