So I have given a run to the RHA filters and indeed the bass filters do make the FD5 overall smoother and a bit more bass presence but I find you loose the benefit of the outstanding soundstage too much. I rolled to Penon Mix cable and it was a smoother experience, the stock cable is definitely brighter sounding. I think cable rolling has a lot of potential to make the FD5 sound as you want it.
I also tried the FD5 with iBasso DX300 and Shaling M8.
The DX300 brings soundstage a bit further yet, it's clearly its outstanding strength as well as its black background and smooth relaxed character. This makes for a great pairing with FD5 making it yet more holographic sounding with super layering and smoother as well especially in the midrange. Sub bass has more presence than Hiby R8 as well.
The M8 brings its superb power in the bass department, with the best slam of all DAP I paired it with bringing the FD5 into even more impressive territory. Mids are fuller bodied without affecting separation and everything has superb articulation there, mids have more bite in the upper section so it doesn't smoothen the FD5 as the DX300 does. Lower treble is a bit different where M8 is smoother than DX300 so it's not a clear cut picture. Upper treble is more extended and the M8 brings the FD5 to its full potential I think.
