Just got a pair FiiO F9 iems and been listening to them for a while now and the treble seems kinda hot on these. I’m using them with an iPhone 7 Plus just using the lighting to 3.5 right now until I get a better set up. Do these improve with time? Maybe a better DAC will improve them or an amp? Other than the highs I’m very pleased with them.

Whether they burn in or you get used to them they may seem better over time. They do come with balance and bass tips if I remember correct. So, switch off the balance if you are using those :)

The tips I’m using now are the grey ones. What are the balance tips and what are the bass tips?

There's been an observed treble peak at 7 KHz for the Fiio F9.

I'd recommend the Comply Ts-200 or Tsx-200 foam tips. The Ts-200 yielded a noticeably more balanced response for me than either of the Fiio tips: compromises - too much bass (red), or too much treble (gray) for my taste.

I also eq'd mine -3 dB @ 7 KHz (using EQu on my iPhone 6s), and they sound exceptional for this price point.

See BROOKO'S REVIEW for test results with Comply; he also got similar results with Spiral Dots.

I haven't tried the Tsx Complys yet. Since they have the extra wax filter, they may further tame the treble peak.
